Yes.. a very well made game even in vanilla. Will get even better with patching.
Glad to see the sales doing well also. That means we will get some expansion packs and possibly another game.
Looking at that list...... Wow 2016 was a disappointing year. Doom... I guess?!
It could've been the game of the year if it wasn't for the AI, which is what it is, and the bugs.
I'd say Witcher III: Blood & Wine, but this is not a game but expansion.
Deus Ex is content cut.
In Mafia III you turn into a black serial killer who does the same thing over and over again; namely, kiling.
Far Cry Primal is too repetetive. It follows the same Ubisoft pattern.
So all in all, I think Battlefield 1 deserves to be the game of the year.
That's a good question.
But we could ask ourselves what really means "the game of the year"?
If it's a great expansion pack, then indeed TW3: Blood and Wine is the champion IMHO.
If we talk about a really original breaking concept, that had a strong but short impact on society, then Pokemon Go.
*Yeah the augmented reality exited before, but with the Pokemon Go formula it went to a new dimension.
If the GOTY is about a great polished game with great features, then yes I'd vote Civ VI as my first (as today, there're still two months to go... Planet Coaster?...).
*As polished as a piece of software can be on release, so riddled with bugs, but none game-breaking.
