Is is true?! that you will be able to have max 4-5 AI Civs?

If this is also true.., then we are talking about a MAJOR dissapointment and reason, at least for me,
to stay on Civilization VI, and maybe try Civilization VII after the 1st or 2nd expansion, or never..

Are we're going back.. instead of forward?..
2 steps back and one forward (with DLCs?$$)

I don't remember where I saw it and I'm not 100% sure but I do think they said something about the amount of civs would increase per age. So, the max would be less in antiquity but higher in modern age. However, I could be wrong about that.

As far as I'm aware, the hard limits are for human players in a multiplayer game. The map expands so the game can account for more human players in each age (i still don't understand and don't think I like this)

I guessing someone saw they only showed 5 civs in the preview and jumped to conclusions.

My guess is there might be a limit on some platforms.

The Steam description says 5/8 limits, but it's not clear if that includes only human players or AI civs as well. Surely we'll have Large and Huge maps with higher counts.

Yeah I'm getting worried about this. As someone who has played Earth maps attempting to put every civ in (this became difficult post GS with even further dlc's adding more civs in) even disabling loyalty mechanic to do so, sometimes I just like to play with everyone in.

Ngl, if we are restricted in civs in this way, I may not buy this game on launch. I have a bad feeling they will restrict civs for performance reasons. But I hope for the PC version at least, there are no restrictions. But I've already resigned myself to the fact I'll probably need a new video card, but my CPU and RAM should be good. I figure I need one anyways for the Veilguard game coming out (though I probably won't buy that on release).

It's possible this limit is for the ancient age. But even that seems too low. And it seems strange more civs may be added in the exploration age. How would that even work? They would be civs that didn't exist in the ancient age or antiquity I should say, so they wouldn't get that head start of having cities up and running in the antiquity age.

We do need clarification for sure, but a few points:

1. The Switch is receiving a different build of the game capped at smaller map sizes and lower player counts. Given that, it is not comparable to the version everyone else is receiving.

2. Modern consoles are on par with or more powerful than your average gamer's PC, so this argument is outdated and irrelevant in general.

3. We know there are different map sizes and it is logical to assume different player counts are associated with those map sizes - it has always been that way. I believe we've only seen gameplay and info related to Standard size. This is definitely what they should give us more information about, though.

This player limit and the challenges of launching cross-platform from day 1 are my main worries about the game. (In contrast to most people, I'm actually pretty excited about a lot of the big gameplay changes!)

I assume that these numbers are for standard size maps and are not actually hard limits, but what Firaxis recommends for best gameplay stability.

For example, I believe on the Civ 6 page it had certain player limits for each map size, but you could manually add more players and exceed the limit but it wasn't considered "supported".

So I'm hoping when they say 'limit' it really means 'recommendation'.

It would be a shame if you couldn't play a 3v3 game from the antiquity age.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have stricter limitations for multiplayer, where more variables can affect stability. I would be shocked if they don't have large maps available in single player mode, and I believe in other iterations of the game this could also be increased with mods fairly easily, at least until you reach a numeric cap

It's just a rumor, based on the human in multiplayers, as on steam page for the multiplayer section: "five players supported in the Antiquity & Exploration Ages. Up to eight players supported in the Modern Age"

We have no information about the number of AI civs so far, but it's probably higher.

This might depend on whether the map (1) expands during the changing of the age (as they have stated), or (2) whether it is pregenerated and then barriers are dropped, while AI players are placed in the newly accessible area (what I secretly hope for). Especially because the first option would make things like the World Builder and Earth maps rather.... annoying to implement. I doubt they are going to get rid of the Earth map, so I feel like it is option two that is actually implemented, but in promotion they explain it like option one to make it sound more grand.

I think we should avoid rushing to conclusions. First guy is asking if there's a fire - nobody here has seen the fire. Some people are blaming the consoles for the fire(?!).

Regardless, we will likely find out before release.

Isn't Civ 7 also releasing on the PS4? That's some very outdated hardware that will surely have an impact.

I don't think it would have any more impact than supporting older PC hardware. PS4 specs are comparable to just an older PC at this point, which lots of people have.
