In another thread I read something about "buying" a city without triggering war.

I am confused about this, there could be something to it, I can vaguely remember acquiring a city but without war or maybe it just seemed like that ?

Buying a city would be possible under some type of government ?

As far as I know acquiring an enemy city can only be done through the "incite revolt" option ?

I don't recall seeing any "buy city" option.

Maybe what is ment is to incite revolt without triggering war ?

I am confused ?!

Is it possible to acquire an enemy city with gold/money without triggering war ? If so, how ?

Maybe a side effect of "the great wall" wonder ? or "united nations" ? ;)

The option is called 'subvert city', costs twice as much as inciting a revolt and does not trigger war. It is available only if you're at peace with the targeted AI.

I have never seen that option in civilization 1. Perhaps this is an option in civ2 or civ3 or some other version of civ 1 ? ;)

Here is a screenshot of the options:

Select "Incite a Revolt". If you at peace with civ and you have enough money (x2 from normal), you will get 3rd menu option: "Subvert city".

Wow indeed ! I just managed to get it ! Wow ! I can vaguely remember this screen from a time long long long ago lol, I probably didn't understand it back then and completely forgot about it or didn't even notice it or never saw it ! LOL.

Great to learn new things after so many years ! LOL. Here is screenshot from more developed game, from my save game zip from other thread hehe: See attachment.

(Well after I subverted it the French re-contacted me, so I could not verify if we still at peace, but I did not see a peace/reject screen so that is at least some indication that this indeed works, plus the extra menu item, cool stuff, might try this in the future, but I have become pretty good at playing this game, might not need it anymore hehe.)
