Is it immoral to eat a dog?

In China, they eat cats and dogs on a regular basis, but me personally, I would never eat the family pet!

I don't see it as immoral, however I am repulsed by the idea of eating the family pet.

Here, our culture values dogs too much. Eating a dog around here where there are plenty of other food sources avaliable is immoral.

I don't blame the Chinese though. If their society doesn't revere dogs beyond eating them, that's fine with me.

No it isn't. And yes it is tasty.

No, not at all. The only reason many people are morally adverse to eating dogs/horses is that they think of them as people.

Eh its personally disgusting to me, but so long as people arent obtaining dogs illegally or by deception to do it then it shouldnt be illegal or anything. But i do think if you were going to do that in like the US you should have to tell the dog pound or dog seller thats what you are going to be doing with the dog, no one should be participating in any way if they dont want to.

I want to try dog. I really do.

Actually, this raises an interesting question: is there justification for eating meat, at all?

Yep, from the highest authority.
Genesis 1:26-30 said:
26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

That does not cover eating meat, but it covers mastery. Moving on to eating meat.

Genesis 9:1-3 said:
1And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
2And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
3Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

I don't see why it would be inherently wrong. It'd be really messed up to steal someone's pet dog and eat it - it happens, believe it or not, in some places - but I don't see why eating a dog bred for that purpose is necessarily any more wrong than eating a cow bred for that purpose. So if you accept that it's OK to eat beef, I don't see how you have grounds to condemn others for eating dogs. (Assuming they're killed humanely and aren't pets, anyway)

I'm kind of odd, though....I think I actually might like to try dog someday. Whale too. :p

Nothing wrong with eating dog meat. I don't think I'd ever eat it unless I was on the verge of starvation, but that's just personal taste. As for whale meat, it tastes like roast beef. Quite good.
