Have to ask the question as it appears no updates for over a year, and the forum seems pretty quiet these days.

Sad day if so. I have spent many an hour playing this mod and it will be hard to move to something else as been a player since this mod came out. I have always enjoyed the updates to improve it, and grow it. Big thanks to all those who have given their time over the years into this great mod. Be great to see this carried on, but also appreciate that everything comes to a natural end at some point.

I'd say it is, considering big bugs are not being fixed for years. Some were in Chronicles of Mankind, though. Unfortunately, it's not going to be multiplayer-stable anytime soon.

Caveman2Cosmos is a RoM fork, too. Although it's hopelessly bloated, there's at least an effort to balance the buildings underway now. And it's devs still are ambitios enough to plan an engine rewrite on Godot.

are there any forks that are playable in multiplayer without frequent desyncs? How bad is AND 2 in that regard?

45deg said it's very stable, but you can't hotjoin (and actually need to restart if any OOS actually occurs). If you are not big on rangestrike, I'd recommend History Rewritten.

As Mr. Smith said, AND2 is good enough in multiplayer, I've been able to finish a few games from the start to transhuman era with only a few OOS. There's a MP subforum for RAND which explains how to enjoy it the most in MP (there are options still causing troubles):

Yeah, I had to abandon development due to real life commitments. Sometimes I pick up the idea of fixing things I left unfinished and wasn't able to fix at the time, but in the end I simply don't have time and I fear breaking things which are not broken and that would require more time to fix again. Although I must say that using AI to code should make it way easier than it was 10 years ago, and it's tempting.

We tru fans r still hoping you find time someday:) and like you said maybe AI would be big help for fixing bugs

this is still my favorite mod despite it not being a challenge to beat anymore, the civics, the tech paths, the leaders, religions and all the units and all the buildings. Everything is very well designed.
it's depressing to see realism Invictus keep getting tons of updates and this one does not, I tried several times to get into realism Invictus mod but it doesn't quite scratch the itch.
