Is the Clinton / Obama fight fracturing the Democratic Party?

I see the Obama and Clinton fight fracturing the Democratic party more and more each time I see their debates.

Care to elaborate? I see them testing each other but their civility is still an amazing sight. Plus, theres talk that Edward will become AG of Obama, so that should capture Obama even more votes and appeal the the white male population.

Hilliary is not riding her career on this, the bond of a common enemy is stronger than competition among like-minded peers.

And this mentality is exactly why they don't stand a chance.

Now is as good a time as any for a moderate independent to step up. So much division...it's anybody's field. Now they may not win (thanks to the above mentioned attitude) now, but it's progress towards a better system.

I totally agree. I was just thinking yesterday about how great it would be and how it could happen at this point in history with the way things are going, if we could just create our own party. Throughout American history this has occured occasionally too. We did not start off with Democrats and Republicans. We started off with Whigs and Federalists, and Democrats-Republicans (exact title as written) were one party. So there were at least 3 parties involved. Then the Civil War came and split the Democrat/Republican parties and created a National Union objective.

But I was thinking how disgusted I am by the partisan ship, especially with Republicans not liking John McCain because they say he's "not republican enough" and that he "works too much with democrats" and how he's too moderate. (Sheer BS) as an example. I was thinking of how great it would be, and even possible to begin a 3rd indepandant party with bi-partisan moderates.

What the heck, why don't we create our own party? What do you say? What shall we call it? The "moderate party"? The Unitarian Party? If there was a new party formed of moderates like that, what do you think it should be called?

There were never all three of those parties at the same time.

For a brief period, the Federalists pretty much went out of style, and the Whigs didn't start up for a few years... so we were a one-party system around 1820.

The Clinton/Obama fight is fracturing the Democratic Party no more than the McCain/Romney fight is fracturing the Republican Party.

African Americans make up around 14% of, for example, Michigan's population. The margin of victory for the Democrats here in 2004 was less than 4%. Do the math: It's not at all a sure bet that the Republicans would win in that instance, but it certainly makes it more plausible. Add this in to, say, McCain running and drawing many independents, and you'd get a red Michigan.

Ding Ding. That was my point. And yes, there's plenty of evidence that this does occur in local politics.

 Not sure our technology can reach Teddy; How 'bout Raegan and his horses instead?

I'd say the more appropriate term would be that the Clintons were puting a hair-line crack in the democratic party and that it's now being patched up with a band aid by the Kennedys' while Obama goes and gets some plaster.
