Is the gothic subculture dead?

Does/did your high school have goths in it?

I remember back in the early 21st century (early 2000s) there was a small group of goths back in like 7th and 8th grade, but at my high school there are none. Is it just my high school, or is the entire subculture/clique dead worldwide (or atleast in the United States), or are there like holdouts or what? Not that I'm interested in joining such a 'organization', I'm already part of the emo subculture and quite content there.

Hard-core gothic subculture is effectivly dead.
Alot of it has merged with emo or they have become 'sunshine goths'. If you have any of them at your school, you automaticaly know what I am talking about. Basicaly a mix of raver and goth.

EDIT: You are part of the emo subculture?
Get a life. There is enough teen angst in the world without you artificialy creating some.

Just because they're aren't any goths in your high school doesn't mean there aren't any goths anywhere.

EDIT: @Ajidica: What do you mean "rever"

I suppose so, but I still really haven't seen any on my forays into the cities or elsewhere.

Raver, sorry.

Don't hate on emos. The reason Airstrike cuts himself is probably because he's depressed, and if you're mean to him you'll just push him a down a wuthering path of depression.

I was going to post a picture that said "**** you, I'm an anteater" but then I decided against it, as not to invoke the wrath of Eran of Arcadia.

Moderator Action: You should have decided against even telling us what you planned to do. No reason to strike back at his offensiveness.

I'm not depressed, nor do I cut. You're just stereotyping...

EDIT: Rather 'mean' content about the whole 'goth' thing. Apologies, removed.

Some, yeah, but it wasn't quite as defined and cliquey as all that. (Are Americans schools really like that?) There was a lot of overlap with moschers, metalheads, emos, etc; there was basically "alternative" people with different individual preferences.
Out of school, plenty. Glasgow has tonnes of them. Britain's always had a pretty durable goth culture, even if it does wax and wane, and I'm also told that it's quite strong in Germany.

Hard-core gothic subculture is effectivly dead.
What do you mean by "hard-core", exactly? Are we talking Batcavers and only Batcavers, or simply those styles of goth without an obvious overlap into other subcultures?

Ok, so you're not really an emo, your just a wannabe. Real emos cut themselves.

Moderator Action: In really bad taste and totally inappropriate.

Styles without obvious overlap. I mean, we have plenty of emo-goths, sunshine-goths, and gangsta-goths, but nobody who is really 'goth'.

I agree. Considering the last Gothic kingdom has been dead for 1300 years, they have been doing remarkably well for themselves.

According to Wiki,
Wiki said:
In the 21st century, gothic metal has moved towards the mainstream in Europe, particularly in Finland where groups such as The 69 Eyes, Entwine, HIM, Lullacry, Poisonblack and Sentenced have released hit singles or chart-topping albums. In the US, however, only a few bands such as HIM[1], Lacuna Coil[2], Cradle of Filth[3], Within Temptation[4], Nightwish[5] and Evanescence[6] have found commercial success.

EDIT: This was referring to the previous two posts and they're "who's an example of gothic music"-ness, but I guess it could apply to the OP's question.
