Is There a Reason Why I Can't Even Install Vanilla Patch 1.29???

Got the patch straight from civ3.com, installed it, and now when I click to play Civ 3, nothing happens.

Just another kink that I can't figure out.

Got the patch straight from civ3.com, installed it, and now when I click to play Civ 3, nothing happens. The CD is in the Drive, too. I'm sure that the CD is a legit copy, also.

So do I just get PTW, which gives the same results of the 1.29 patch?

And also, I hear that installing ver 1.29 would be a good idea before installing Conquests and PTW, but if PTW has 1.29, why is this necessary??
