Is there a way to avoid domination?

In CIV, can you just play for a time victory or does domination kick in like in Civ3?

It's just a matter to avoid tripping over the dom threshold. Can be sometimes hard, especially with wrong corps. Anyways, time vics are extremely not funny; they are just sluggish and aimless. I did that just because that challenger asked for it.

I suppose yes. Just test with a future era quick speed game. It should take 5-10 mins clicking next turn.
