Is there a way to make EUI lite?

I don't know why or how, and I may be mistaken, but I've noticed that in big maps the EUI version of VP tends to freeze more often than the non-EUI version. Whilst I have no qualms living without most of EUI's excellent features, the one thing I can't live without is the promotion icons that let me identify units at a glance. Is there a way to extract only that feature but disable every other aspect of EUI?

EUI options already include disabling the unit list, city list, and the civ icon list on the right.

However, due to how EUI works, having any part of it on is going to cause around the same amount of extra memory usage.
