    I'm interested in playing a game as them, but from the ground up. Is there a way in custom games to do so?

    Unfortunately not, but you have to consider that they aren't balanced to be played from start.

    There are different ways to get to them as fast as possible though.
    -Of course via worldbuilder
    -Advanced Start
    -Choosing a civ that is good in beelining Hyborem/Basium (Lanun with pirate coves, Kuriotates, etc)

    You can change <bPlayable> to 1 in Assets/XML/Civilizations/CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml ; you would need to do so in the Mercurians entry.

    Not to plug, but you can in FF, if that interests you.

    There is an option if FF that allows you to select the playability of various civs. Should be at the bottom. Select it, and a popup will appear, allowing you to toggle civs as blocked, Human only, or open. You can use this to unblock the Infernals/Mercurians.

    Be warned though, Xienwolf nerfed their early play as a result... Need to get to the point where they would come in naturally for them to be at full power, receiving manes or angels.

    An easy way to change who you are at any stage of a game is to enter worldbuilder, save the scenario, which will save to the worldbuilder folder in Saves in Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword... or whatever. It's just an xml, you look through it and change whatever you want.

    Enter Worldbuilder, save the scenario, close Worldbuilder, go ahead and save because you cannot load Worldbuilder saves from the main menu.
    Open the Worldbuilder save xml, look for BeginPlayer, Team=0. Change to:
    BeginPlayer
    Team=0
    LeaderType=LEADER_BASIUM
    LeaderName=TXT_KEY_LEADER_BASIUM
    CivDesc=TXT_KEY_CIV_MERCURIANS_DESC
    CivShortDesc=TXT_KEY_CIV_MERCURIANS_SHORT_DESC
    CivAdjective=TXT_KEY_CIV_MERCURIANS_ADJECTIVE
    FlagDecal=Art/Interface/TeamColor/Mercuriansflag.dds
    WhiteFlag=0
    CivType=CIVILIZATION_MERCURIANS
    Color=PLAYERCOLOR_MERCURIANS
    ArtStyle=ARTSTYLE_MERCURIANS
    Save, load your game, enter Worldbuilder, choose Basium and you're done! You can even look through the CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml file in the Mods\Fall from Heaven 2\Assets\XML\Civilizations folder for any other leaderhead. :cool:

    Although sometimes it's better to play with or against the guys with the cool leaderheads...

    I'd love to see an auto-option for the Mercurians/Infernals.
    Similar to the mechanic Rhye uses when u choose a civilization that enters later.
    So the AI would play the game itself, untill someone researches Infernal Pact/builds the Mercurian Gate.
    Can't be that difficult i think.

    In RFC, spawning of a civ is predictable; in FFH, it isn't so predictable...

    Yeah, RFC's mechanic wouldn't work in a non-scripted game like FfH.
