Is there an "Improved Interface" mod out there?

I searched the civfanatics mods, but I can't find one. However, I could have missed one, and there may be others out there beyond this site.

What I mean:

I'm basically looking for a mod that would let me play the entire game from the map screen. With translucencies and popup menus, I don't see why I should have to go into city screens, at least. I suppose the other menus (tech, civics, etc) I DO need, but... don't you think we should be able to manage everything about the city from the map screen? Worked tiles and specialists? Know what I mean?

I know there have been graphical modifications to the GUI, but I've never used/tried any of them. Check the graphical and modcomponent areas...maybe.

Hmm, I double checked the mod section, but can't find anything like that.

Does everyone know what I mean?

How hard do you think it would be for me to make something like this myself? Normally I'd wait for someone more competent than me to do something similar, but I hate "asking" and whining to real modders about my ideas.
