I play CIV2. Is there any point and/or benefit from "future technology," or is this just the game's way of telling you that you have all of the scientific advancements you're gonna get? I have always assumed that it was useless, and as soon as I reach that point I turn my science down to zero and cash in. Am I right?

It depends upon your goals. Each Future Tech adds to your final score, so if you are looking for a high score, then future tech is worthwhile. However, if you want a high score you still need to turn LUX to 100% on the last turn to get the extrat points for happy citizens. Future tech, as far as I know, has no other effect on the game. Inearly landing or early conquest, I suppose that FT woulod just be a waste of resources.

I'm a score-whore (....that sounded so wrong), so Future Techs are indeed important to me. Points or not, though, it's always satisfying to see them since you can finally slack off in the tech race a bit. ;)

Whatever its scoring advantage, Future Technology can seen as a natural continuation... depends on what mood you're playing in. The real World sees no end to technological advancement.

I've never continued a game after the final score is computed, but some may come to see a carefully-built civilization as a work of art, something to be cared about. It might be a shame to devote hours or days to building a science base and not let it continue to function.

Does that sound "sad?"

I think you could assign units/improvements to be available with a future tech. It's been a while since I've played Civ2, or even modded it for that matter... so it's just a guess.

They add extra points, i swicth to Fundementalism before i get more than one Future tech

In the rules txt you can change stuff around. YOu can change the experation dates of wonders, the cost of units, don't like nukes get rid of them! Even there teclogies! Wonderfull things can happen there! Wonderfull things can happen to your gaming experaince ;) .

Yes. But you can't actually delete "Future Tech," or the game will crash. (I think!) Best to ge the most bonus out of it you can.

I dont think you can, but 8 extra spots exist from adding your own techs.

Nope they are totally pointless as far asw winning the game!

IF you just want to "win the game", your right, future techs are worthless. However, if you are interested in a high score, as opposed to just winning, each FT adds 5 points to your final score and you can get as many as 255 FTs. That is a lot of points if thats your objective. Check out the Hall of Fame section to see the effect of FT. ;)

If you are interested in score, you shouldn't reserch future tech, but put it into taxes. Then subvert your "freinds'" cities and grow your points that way. One city in the late game will probably give you more than 5 points, so it is a better invesment of your trade...

No. If you are really interested in score, you will have captured all the ai cities but one, and are building your city total towards the max number you can have, 254. At the same time, you will be researching FT to get the maximum number of points possible.

Going for the highest possible score requires that you do everything possible to max your score. That includes 254 cities with the max number of citizens in each, as well as 255 FT, all the wonders, and landing your spaceship on the last turn of the game.

By high score, we are talking 17,000 plus!!
