Is this a bug or does France just suck?

You spend your shields the way you want, dude, but for me bombers and radar artillery are the way to go. I like cruise missiles for the eye candy effect.

well... yeah, but bombers also get intercepted alot more than cruise missiles (im not even sure if cruise missiles can be intercepted)

second, can't cruise missiles kill 4 hp off a unit, and not 3. that means that cruise missiles can take down vetern units in a city, and make it easy pickin's whereas bombers bomb them down to 1-2 hp, and they go to the bottom of the stack, and they come back next turn full hp

as for the range, in REAL life, cruise missiles should have the farthest range of all the weapons, aside from ICBMs (i guess tied w/ tactical nukes) i think that 10 range is a good number, since cruise missiles were MEANT to go across oceans/large landmasses w/o direct orders, flying, until they recieve orders, and go to that spot, if i am not mistaken

I think cruise missiles should have a range of say 15, and cost about 200 shields. That way they wouldn't be too cheap, but more useful. The first time I tried using them, I thought it was a bug, they suck almost as bad as helicopters, another nerfed unit IMO. They really nerfed them both in this game, compared to the Civ2 cruise missiles and helicopters.

is there any true point to helicopters/paratroopers? like they both do nothing.
Helicopters are really not worth money IMO.

They act as transports for non-mechanized units. So, three infantry (or marines, or whatever) can be dropped right outside someone's door. This is especially helpful if you are facing a civ in mountainous terrain. You can drop troops on iron deposits, etc., and start to disrupt their infrastructure. The added bonus is that if they are on a mountain or hill, they gain a defensive bonus, and the AI will often throw everything they have at them. I've used them for just such a reason. This allows me to attack them elsewhere, and they are less able to deal with me. Helicopters can also airdrop over bodies of water, which means taking a two-tile island just out of reach suddenly becomes a hair-bit easier. Sure, if you have a transport or galleon nearby it may be better to use it, but if they're more than two turns away, forget it. A helicopter can save turns like that.

yeah, it helps so you don't have to build an airport to airlift garrisons/offensive units over to a city. plus, when you have a HUGE army, and you don't have enough airports, and transports take too long, helicopters help. (it happened to me, i had about 150 cavalry, and 100 tanks, and 50 marines. marines went over in transports, tanks in airports, and cavalry on the helicopters... it got them over there a HUGE time faster.)

as for paratroopers.... they would be a ton alot better, if they could take cities and kill units when they landed, but they do help alot... just their attack really stinks

You use Calvaries during the Industrial Ages?

The French are doing pretty well in my current game, I am playing 31 civs on Sid. So the AI knows how to play the French.

Just trying to see if I can survive Sid to 2050, I am curently in 9 place, if I'm still alive in 2050 I will be in 8 place.

yeah... well... i was so far ahead of the AI... by the time i got to the industrial age, and massing cavalry, they were getting into the Medieval ages, and some, if they were lucky, were getting pikemen... plus... i had held back my main assault until i had a HUGE army, and a good civ to attack :p
