This is a problem America knows how to solve. Bomb them to bits. If they have artillery, bomb it. If they organize into ranks, bomb them. If there seems to be any kind of concentration of firepower, bomb it. Eventually the people trapped on the mountain can come down and hit them in the heads with rocks. America does fine in wars as long as they never set foot on the ground.

If only that Idiot Obama had listern to Republicans and armed those Syrian freedom Fighters ISIS with lots of US weapons, training and funding this would NEVER have Happened !!!

I don't think it's non interventionist, just an awareness that it doesn't work. If we were willing to invade and establish a colonial government and be no less brutal than the Saddam Hussein regime, maybe, but short of that we would just be extending/postponing the inevitable civil war.

Yeah. If there is to be intervention, USA needs to control Iraq like a colony, kill all aggressors, set up their own schools with the absolute goal of social conditioning and forcing secularist ideology. In the mean time, the US also needs to develop infrastructure, give Iraq the latest technology, and ensure that there are absolutely no food, water or electricity shortages. Then, this needs to be maintained for at least two generations. This is the only type of intervention that will make Iraq stable.
