Ok, there is huge basis, in the Koran, for the oppression of women. I know that comes as a shock to many of you, but I can provide quotes.

Regardless... Women around the world have a hard plight, except in Europe, the USA & Canada, I feel like they are generally treated as 2nd class citizens... but nowhere so much as in Islamic countries.

For some levity...
"Moofti, can you please move to the left of Fatma?"

Have you anything to discuss about this?

Well, my number one question is, having spent years in such places...
Why do the women allow themselves to be treated in such a manner?

But, this is a free ranging discussion... take it where you will.

It's not a problem with Islam - it's a problem with the (usually..sometimes?) tribal culture in the coutries where this happens.

I agree, to an extent.
In the case of Islam, it is in their rules that women are 2nd hand citizens... kind of slows down the progress in women's rights in places that were already potentially behind.

Moderator Action: Except that you didn't. Without quotes or a link to something of substance, you have, essentially, an OP that will go downhill quickly. No different than if I had a thread that started w/ the idea that Christians, say, hate women. So, I'm doing you and other potential posters a favor by closing this now and giving you the opportunity to try again.

So... if you want to start a new thread with some a link or two to something of substance w/ some actually starting points for discussion, please do.

That said, I would caution you and anyone who consequently participates to careful as its easy a pretty easy subject to veer off of into inappropriate territory.

Handle with care...
