So, I decided to have a play on a very water based map, small islands in this case.

As the attached file shows, I have a reasonable location with a few lux's etc, BUT.....

There is now shallow water path away from the island other than to the South East where Bismark has blocked me and isn't interested in shared open borders.

Do I hunker down, focus on science, build a defensive military and see what transpires, or do I build an attacking force and go and take him now.

Only playing on Prince on this one as I wanted to get some experience on these types of map. Standard size, 7 Civs with 21 CS's, and standard speed.

I'd be interested in seeing what you guys think. My initial reaction is to start ramping up the science, but I know that Germany will become a runaway if I give him the time & space.

Playing England, I presume you'd get a lot out of making him fall to a fleet of galleas, then later upgrading these to Ship of the Line (with some promotions) for more conquest.

If so, tech up to Compass (before Education, before most things) and spam out a few. They're quite capable at winning the war with just a tririme to take the city.

u can just dow cross his land to continue scouting and make peace 10 truns later ...

why is the easy solution so hard to see?

Because I never thought of that !! However he does have the largest army out there, twice the size of mine.....

send a couple of archers down there and poke at him until years later you can sign peace treaty without giving up anything.

now you have archers with promotions that you can upgrade to longbows.
