Isolated Defensive Pact mechanic

Has anyone isolated RFC's defensive pact mechanic. It is put simply awesome the way that it spawns so many WW1 like scenarios due to the intertwined defensive pacts.

I once had a funny situation after a congress. Countries forced me to hand over one of my (GER) cities to the Netherlands, which I refused. Russia was the only country to declare war on me. And guess what? I had a defensive pact with Turkey which was the master of the Dutch and the three of us fought Russia
