Hello everyone. I find myself to be a decent dotmapper, agreeing with and being congruent with most of the opinions on this board. However I just rolled an isolated start with Kublai, and I would like some input from everyone else if at all possible. Here are the screen shots:

And here are my dotmaps (I'm not that great at it yet... :)):

I realize I have probably left spots out/made incorrect dots/etc... That's the point of this! :) It's also a little hard because there are two pictures and it can be difficult to line them up. Hopefully I can learn something from this.

On a sidenote, I vigorously refrained from the use of emoticons until I came here. Damnit. :crazyeye:

City #1, 1w to get sheep (if there is another hill in BFC). The rest seem good to me.

I agree with ecofarm. City 1 should be 1W, the rest is ok.

Beware of overexpansion ( its always a temptation with so much avaliable land) and let the barbs do a city or two for you :D

Here's my go at it:

The letters have no intention of indicating the order of settlement. I don't like the grey area in the dot mapping (lots of wasted grassland rivers); I would move city I to the alternative location. Moving E means later hookup of marble and slightly less production (of which it has preciously little). The capital should probably move to city H.
All in all that's a huge amount of cities, but you have plenty of land to cottage. Lots of coastal cities so I would make sure to get the great lighthouse, and go for colossus as well. Then again I don't think I have played a truly isolated start before, so take somebody else's advice when possible :p

I like the original dotmapping, although I agree with moving the 1st city 1w to get the *deer*

No need to go for copper city 2nd though. It's a stretch and chariots can handle any barbs for a long time.

I would say you want to nab some wonders. Always a good idea when isolated. But you don't have the marble worked into your plans. I would say add a city one north of the marble, pinching the rice from the capital. It will be an "ok" city and gives you the ability to get some nice marble wonders (e.g., ToA, parthenon, Oracle, GL, NE) built.
