It used to work...now does not..

I used to play this game extensivelly, with no problems some months ago. Then i got BF2. NOw, wanting to play CIv4, i constantly am getting a game freeze, a t about classical era. It is a multi-color scramble, that loooks like one of those pictures you have to stare at sideways to see the hidden image ....you know those pictures in the mall?

ANyway, like i said it used to work great some months ago. I have an expensive card, and all other games work great on it. I figure it is probably the new nividia driver, but would really love not to have to 'rollback' my drivers everytime i want to play Civ4. I would love any help anyone could lend, for i do love this game.;........very much. thanks

i installed newest update for civ (1.52), i have reinstalled, and i have cussed at the game.....none of which has changed the problem one bit.
