Italian Football Wholesale

Sorry I thougt this thread was simply to discuss player transfers due to the scandal, not the scandal as a whole.

They are pretty interlinked given that there wouldn't be many transfers if no teams get relegated.

Why don't they shut down the clubs? Sure, Juvie (sic) stockholders would be screwed, but it's really no different than Enron.

its really different. I dont think they would just get rid of Juve.

Impossible. Juventus is the biggest italian club, one of the biggest in the world and has millions of supporters in Italy alone. A football club is just not like any company. To many millions it is their lives, their love, their nation.

All the more reason to shut it down. You don't think Juventus being eliminated from the face of the earth wouldn't make every single other football club honest, when they know the same thing could happen to them?

Then again, I'm for relegation for diving (not excessive diving, mind you--any diving), so I'm kinda harsh like that.

EDIT: Also, no matter how much it's a football club, it's still a business. Businesses have a set of rules they must follow, and in most places, artificially inflating the value of your stock is illegal.

No...

And it would cause a revolution. Besides, there would always be a rich man or a group of rich men willing to invest, buy or resurrect the club, like it happened with Fiorentina, or would happen to any club with any significant popular support.

Oh yes, it's quite different!

Anyways, it's in Italy, and a little bit of corruption was never a reason to shut down a company there. ;)

I would not be against that. Business rules apply (although granted I don't know the bankruptcy/governance laws in Italy/EU). They should have to divest all their assets and that includes the name/logo. And yes a millionaire investor could resurrect the team simply by purchasing the name/logo (stadium rights? I don't know). But the business owners of Juventus (and consequently all football clubs) would learn a valuable lesson.

Word coming out of Italy is that the decision might be delayed until Saturday.

Does anyone else think the delay in ruling (now to Saturday) is simply being done to make sure enough money changes hands? I for one have no faith this will be resolved fairly.

I thin Juventus has prety much came on terms with the fact that they're likely to go down. What they wouldn't want is go down to Serie C. Serie B would be okay, they could loan a few players, keep some others and come back next season. It happened with Milan some 20 years ago, and they soon came back and began their most glorious era ever; Fiorentina went down in 1992 I think, and they managed to keep Batistuta and the rest of the squad too. But 2 years out of top football (and at least 3 out of CL) would be more "catastrophic". As for the other 3 clubs, I don't think they'll be relegated. Maybe fined and stripped from their UEFA spots.

I'm not really aware of all that affair, but I hope that there won't be any amnesty. Or else, I'll be looking at Italian football the same way Zidane looked at Materazzi seconds before he headbutted him. Italy, you have a few days to prove that you're a fair country as a whole.

Speaking of that, at least I'm glad that Italy won the WC while Berlusconi was out. Seeing that ugly face smiling with the golden trophy would have been a huge pain in the ass. Prodi is OK.

BTW, Didier Deschamps will coach Juventus for the next 2 years. I hope that most of their players will leave Juventus, while the club goes down to Serie B or C. That will let Deschamps enough freedom to build a good squad from scratch, and that could be interesting. Furthermore, we could see some of our French players come back home, and we desperately need some in our best clubs.

I'm hoping for a verdict soon, hopefully all those teams got relegated.

At least there will be a new champion next season.

As for the players, they should go down with the team as well, taking a huge paycut, as well as a chance to prove your loyalty. (Like Batistuta)

Why? None of the reports indicate that players are involved in any way.

Sure, but they can prove their loyalty by sticking to the clubs through thick and thin.

've read that Cannavaro is considering staying with Juve if they get relegated.

No, I just prefer sports played by men.

EDIT: I shouldn't be so harsh, I'm sure there are plenty of players that don't collapse into a crying heap when touched. That's why I support relegating the entire team when players dive (not sure why you think that denotes ignorance), it'll discourage such pathetic behavior.
