    Im playing my own map - 40x40 earth and around 280x40 whole map.
    This map is full of resources, and every city has only one terrain around itself + coast.

    Here should be all cultures be possible to discover and all synergy bonuses, that you can obtain if you get certian 2 vicinity resources.
    That is resource A and B in city vicinity allows you to make building producing resource C.

    My game speed settings are Marathon, Deity to slow down tech progress and Gigantic to slow it even more so - for me buildings build bit too slowly :p
    But I'll step down diffuculty as I landed in 4455 BC, while aim was at 6000 BC.
    Edit: Flexible diffuculty doesn't work even when I switched turn timer to one turn and lowered max diffuculty to immortal, same as minimum diffuculty.

    The Beginning. I guess we could add picture of Prehistoric era.
    Spoiler :

    Start of Ancient Era

    I reached Classical era, I'm falling behind calendar :p
    It seems like Deity is slowing progress too much, but on other hand I find building stuff keeping pace with tech progress.
    I picked Deity to have enough time to build buildings :p
    I could use Eternity+Noble instead - less aggressive properties :p
    I guess if I just picked Noble I could just dial down research speed
    Also I think I got half of all possible animal myths - I keep using bards to make animal stories
    Spoiler :

    I guess if I wanted to catch up with calendar I would have to be ultra aggressive with city founding :p
    For each city I make teacher, police, doctor unit and send worker along with settler.

    Out of curiosity, did you put your cities in this nice geometric arrangement because you wanted to, or was it really the best placement to get good tiles and resources? (and by best I mean the best under your rules/values, as the best way to place cities surely is different from player to player)

    And I'm sure there is something conceptually wrong with having 272602:gold: in the beginning of the Medieval Era. That's a mind-blowing high value :crazyeye:

    Well its my custom map test map. Placing cities like this allows no overlap of mega cities when you build certain building in unlocked in Renaissance. So I place cities like I wanted to place :p
    Also I build a lot of gold producing buildings, and I have no military, as there are only animals here :p

    I see. Is there anything you wish to accomplish with this game? I ask this because with no other nations it would make the game too boring for me to play it, unless I had a specific purpose in mind to be tested (but I usually test these stuff on normal games anyway).

    I see you've caught up close enough with the game date and era.

    Yeah, now I'm colonizing rest of map, where climate is coldest and/or driest :p

    Map size is 280 tiles long and 40 tiles high.
    That is 11 200 tiles. Earth itself takes 46x40 = 1840 tiles.

    Map sizes:
    Duel: 40 x 24 -> 960 tiles
    Tiny: 52 x 32 -> 1 664 tiles
    Small: 64 x 40 -> 2 560 tiles
    Standard: 84 x 52 -> 4 368 tiles
    Large: 104 x 64 -> 6 656 tiles
    Huge: 128 x 80 -> 10 240 tiles
    Giant: 160 x 100 -> 16 000 tiles
    Gigantic: 200 x 120 -> 24 000 tiles

    So entire map is slightly larger than Huge map, and Earth map is very small.

    Map itself is set to Gigantic to slow down research, I have Deity difficulty to slow down it even more.
    Game speed is Marathon. I guess if I had Eternity, then units would have around 3x more time to walk around map and hunt.
    Also it would be easier to keep up with progress for later built cities.

    This is why it costs, what, 4 food per pop now? Maybe 5? We've had to continuously account for food inflation coming in and yet not bury earlier cities in the process. Been a bit of a balancing act. I think the next step may be to extend the amount of food it takes to get to the next population. I'm not saying it's terrible to get such high population numbers and the crime and disease system are ready to punish those who overgrow without caution, but when you get to a point in the game where your cities are almost all gaining 1 pop per round, it gets a little excessive. Been a while since I've gotten that late into the game though so I'm not sure if previous measures taken to bring that back into some balance are as effective as hoped or not.

    Modern era is half of tech tree by volume :D

    There is 920 techs.
    This means if you researched 460th tech, then you are in middle of game.

    If you researched everything until fifth column and some techs in sixth column of Modern Era, then you have half of all techs researched.
    That is bit before space exploration begin in earnest.
    Spoiler :

    To get this screenshot I started new game and selected modern life style, then selected all remaining techs before it except 2 techs, that couldn't be selected due to lack of buildings.
    6th column is partially filled here.

    Modern Era has 15 columns.
    All techs before Modern era + 33 Modern Era techs = middle of game. This era has 96 techs in total.
