I needed my Civ fix and have not been motivated to play Civ V at all. I started a game in Civ IV this afternoon and was as addicted as ever. I lost track of time and played for four straight hours.

I found myself actually cheering at being able to stack units. I did not realize how much I missed the complexity and challenge of the game.

I gave V a chance, I really wanted to like it. But its just not fun.

Heck yeah. I finished a good game last night. I won via space race. Without the internet my victory would have been impossible. Hannibal and Zara were the two superpowers I successfully avoided war with. Hannibal was close to a domination win but my spaceship arrived in 2041, just prior to Hannibal getting the time victory.

I usually like to be the superpower myself, but this was a fun alternative - living on an island and then leaving the horror of a (nuked) Earth behind.

Each to their own. I haven't played Civ IV in well over a year and certainly could never go back. Maybe I just played it to much.

There's no doubt about it in my opinion.

The immersion factor is so much greater. That makes it fun for me. :)

The slightly aged graphics I can live with.

It's still good after all these years.

I'd even say that Civ IV without expansions or mods is more fun than Civ V.

I went back to Civ IV too. Civ V is just so dreadfully boring and simple, I can't even finish a game! All of the mods for Civ IV makes it even more addictive IMO. There's practically a dozen new games out there, the mods have gotten so complex and enormous.

So do I! Civ IV BTS + Better AI mod is far more challenging and fun than Civ V at its current state.

Not that Civ V is a bad game, but until its AI is fixed, I'm all for Civ IV!

Civ 1 is more fun at this point. Hell, Zork on C64 is even better. :)

Back to playing Civ4 with the ROM mod. Best thing since sliced bread and butter. Civ5 on the other hand was like stepping in dog mess in flip flops.

Can't one of the mods move this to the Civ IV forum? It is off topic.

Civ V is just too slow, and yeah, now I'm liking stacks, even if is cheap, is more fun than just moving individual units one by one... each turn.

I'm getting better at this game, so just yesterday I tried multiplayer, and indeed, it is fun fun fun. (I got my arse kicked, though). It's a shame I don't have enough free time, I need to study, but well...

All this business about Civ V being a failure (thankfully I didn't buy it ;)) makes me realise just how good Civ4 BTS is. I've been bored and frustrated with BTS for various reasons, but I'm well aware now that it could be so much worse. Just yesterday I started up a new game, my first serious effort in months (and as Tokugawa, no less - the worst leader out there), and I loved it.

Yeah I learned my lesson with Civ 3... wait a few years until they have it all worked out. It was killing me to wait until CIV 4 came out on dvd ("complete") but it was worth it.

let's give CIV 5 about 4 years to work the kinks out...
