The historical Theodora was of course allegedly a bit racy.
She's thought to have started as an actress and prostitute. Show biz was in her blood since her father was the bear and wild animal keepr at the Hippodrome. :)

Is it just me, or does Theodora look a little inbred when she smiles?

I think Isabella is evil. She must be one of those lizard people from "V", and her human mask isn't very well made...

Isabella is a backstabber like no other.
Elizabeth needs some sun, it won't hurt your babe.
Cleopatra, uses her beauty to get ahead, doesn't work on Gilgamesh (myself).
Theodora is GREAT in the modern ages, that spaghetti strap scarlet dress, mmmm...
Catherine..... eh... *runs away*

Ahem, I hope my wife doesn't see this!!!

Anyway, I just strated a new game "versus" Theodora and six other random civs (I'm playing as the greeks). I plan to shower her with gifts whenever I can. Also, if any other civ even looks at her funny, I'm going to open up a major can of whoop-ass on them!

With any luck, my Theo will soon be basking in the sun of Alpha-Centauri (with me by her side of course).

If you think the release version of Theodore is hot, you should have seen some of the alpha versions, especially in the ancient era. Yowza!!! :D

Have a nice Christmas

Yup, from what I've heard and read, the historical Theodora was a reformed 'performer'; the Byzantine style porn show. In those days 'performers' had to do 'favors' and do extra things for cash. Well, pretty much like the Asian starlets and actresses nowadays... history keeps repeating itself.

Theodora later got away from that dark period of her life and became a devout Christian. Her husband saw her as a Maria Magdelene of her day. But I heard it was too late for her reproductive organs, because of all the sexually transmitted deseases she contracted in the past, she couldn't produce any children.

Xen and other Byzantine experts, care to add to this? I am no Byz expert, but this is what I know so far.

well, history, and political rivals have a way of distorting facts- in truth, Theodora was not a porn actress, nor really a whore- she was a bar maid, or of a similer position to it- in other owrds, a woman of common birth, which made her the perfect target for Justinians rivals to slander...

but that dosetn stop the fact that

A)the Byzantine leader should have been Heraclius I

and

B)you all need to get a girl :) (and keep going SoCal, your a good man,SoCalian, you'll find a good girl soon, I'm sure of it :))

Theodroa shouldn't wear anything in caveman age, should it? Comon, I will have my leader take his/her clothes off (let it be any leaders, but no Catherine)

@ Xen:
Well, me and the girl I'm looking at, are both going to a three day debate tuornament out of town in January. There will only be one chaparone there, and he is genneraly cool with this sort of stuff.

And your opinion is based on... non-distorted facts, right? ;) Ha ha ha... actually, none of us knows what really happened hundreds or thousands of years ago...

Anyway, yes it is very plausible that there were negative campaigns against her personal history, drummed up by her enemies. I've read about it somewhere too. I really don't know the truth since I wasn't there myself at that time... :D

Joan is the best!!!!!!

actually for a VERY long time I thought it should be Basil II as well to be honest, and in my opion, the two are very close calls in terms of over all coolness, but I lean toward heraclius for the fact he was able to both reform the military, and a reverse campaign against the Persians after they had just attempted, with help from the Avars to seige Constantinople, and virtually crushed the Persian empire, and INSTALLED a a emperor on the persian throne who was both freindlly to the Byzantines, and relitivlley well influenced by Byzantium- of course, the other part of the deal was that heraclius so softend the Persians that they fell to the Arab forces...

reading this site I finally realised what being addicted to civ reall means.......dear god....

Theodora's got bad teeth but she does have a certain charm to her. Once I was allied with the Byzantines and the Byzantines were completely conquered by the Chinese, but right before the last Byzantine city was captured I gave Theodora a little tropical island off my coast to spend the rest of her days. I wouldn't have done that for Ceasar or Hammurabi.
