...but i'm really surprised about the numbers of threads about dissapointement.

I've only read the manual for now, and i'm happy with a lot of thing i expected for Civ V (upkeep for road principally, 1upt, empire happiness and new rules for domination victory). To be honnest, after reading the manual, i'm a bit afraid of the quality of graphics. It seems really beautiful, for sure. But, i'm not sure it's clear (replace hammers, bags and notes of musique by colored points is certinaly really bad... and i'm not daltonian).
ok, i will see by myself friday (i'm french).

But in any case, i want to thank all people who complains.
Happiness is just a state of mind. Too much hope implies often disappointment. And waiting nothing implies often good surprises.

Now, i think i'm not hope too much as i used to hope only 2 days ago. And i think it's a good news.
To resume, i think that i'm just adopting the rationalism doctrine ! ;)

You might be lucky then. You will expect disapointment but could be surprised it's a good game. I am not saying it's a bad game, but how the game was so hyped on how beautiful it was suppose to be, well, that is a major disapointment.

Have you tried the demo? I do not like the lack of info that is there, but yet it's not there. I just can't take a quick look and see how much I have to wait for next build to be finished or advanced researched or city growth. I loved the bars that showed the growth.

I do not like the icons they use for hammers, food and money. So ugly, so disapointing. If you can't make it better, it shouldn't have been touched then.

From what I have read, the game is fun. Disapointemenst because the game dosen't live up to the hype. Critisism deserved? Yes I believe so.

Again with todays mind set, release product, patch later. At least with Civ it will not be abonded, so just have to wait for those patches.

These days you have to always keep in mind that with any product that comes along, the company that made it is going to have their employees post phony positive reviews online no matter how bad the product may actually be. It's the negative reviews where you actually learn what the real story is.

Yes that is so true. I have lernt that the hard way. I only have a few sites I go to. I go to Gamespot even though I hear there is better sites. I look at their review, then I go to what the readers have to say. When I see 9s and 10s, I don't read, When I see 1's and 2's, I don't read. I read the 4s, 5s, and 8's because most times, that is where you get the real reviews and not fanboish or anti fanboish reviews.

This info is all there on the main screen, look better. You can see for each city what it's producing, when will production complete, size of the city, defence strength, how many turns before next growth, trade routes, garrisoned unit, hit points (if under attack). How could you not see this ? I think you didn't play the game much

Time to growth is the green number on the left side of the city name. Time till production completes is the orange number on the right side of the city name. Research is in the top left corner of the screen, and tells you what tech you are researching and how much you have researched, how much is researched next turn (which I think is a BUG feature in Civ IV) and how many turns to go. Also, you can see the tech tree by clicking "Show tech tree" when choosing a technology. Clicking on the image for the technology allows you to change your technology progress.

So... yeah. All the information is there (and possibly a little more than regular BTS). A tiny amount of information is missing [You can't see combat odds while at peace, for example], but the interface has been redesigned from the ground up, because the game has changed significantly, so obviously everything is in a different location.

Most of the complaints are about really silly things, so I think people on this site just love to complain and dislike stuff. I wouldn't worry, my expectations are still high and I have no doubt that they'll be met.

Have you tried the demo. You can clearly see how long till you grow/produce/research etc. It's as clear as day.

@davor, schuessel:
No, i've not tried the demo yet, because the demo is too big to be downloaded with my poor internet connection and moreover my laptop is a bit underpowered for Civ IV, so it could be hard for Civ V. I've only preordered the CD pack and i will receive soon a new laptop with a good GPU to play with.
To resume, i'm paying about 1000 € to be able to play Civ V.
I imagine i can say : "In Civ, i trust", for sure ! ^^

There are progress bars, they are just smaller. If you mouse over them, a tooltip will appear (after a second or so) that tells you how many turns it'll take. Yes the Civ IV view was more clear but the information is not gone.

I finally got the demo to run. Funny I was looking all over the game, I just assumed to see the info when I am in the city screen, that is what I am use to, now I see that it's on the main screen, food on left, production on right. slowly getting use to it now.
