Jan. 6th commission

I'm gonna read the whole thing. Thanks for spoiling the ending, by the way, Bird!

For reference, sports fans, its Page 689 of the report, not page 689 of the PDF. The page number of the document is in the top right corner of the page, while the page number of the PDF is notated in the sidebar under each page. The two numbers do not match because the PDF counts cover sheets and such as "pages".

EDIT: Also @Birdjaguar you misspelled "media" (item 10):p. Not sure how that happened if you copy-pasted, since its spelled correctly in the document.
All fixed!

Go Nancy!

NYT said:
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), in what might be her last speech on the House floor as speaker, shot back at Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Friday for his characterization of the omnibus spending bill moments before.
“It was sad to hear the minority leader earlier say that this legislation is the most shameful thing to be seen on the House floor in this Congress,” Pelosi said. “I can’t help but wonder, had he forgotten January 6th?”

I'm 67 pages into the report. Eastman is hosed. They have documents showing he knew what he was advising Trump to do was illegal.

Gotta stay hydrated.

Eastman has direct connections to Clarence Thomas and his wife.

My next little gleaning from the report comes from page 61 of it (p 87 of the pdf). They are establishing that the people who came to the "rally" knew what it was really for, and in connection with the tweet that encouraged them to come ("it will be wild"), they quote someone posting on a discussion site that Trump "can't exactly openly tell you to revolt" and that "this is the closest he'll ever get."

If they do ever charge Trump for inciting an insurrection, I would think they could start from a quote like this (and others in that section of the report). I understand that (to prosecute mafia dons) the law does recognize the possibility of indirect speech (will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest?). Well, the very audience to which Trump was directing his speech on the Ellipse recognized that principle, too, and were easily able to provide the "translation" for comments like "fight like hell or you're not going to have a country any more."

Edit: By the way, if anybody else is going to do what I'm doing, DON'T read the "Executive Summary." It's not an introduction; it's a summary. (Who could have guessed? Why wasn't there some clue?) The main body of the report (starting p 220 of the pdf) contains all of the information in the summary plus more. If you read the executive summary, you'll just have wasted your time. It's good they did it, for people who don't want to read the whole thing.

From Transcripts released today: Apparently, Mark Meadows, after the 2020 election, had a habit of burning documents in his WH office fireplace.

And now the DA in Georgia is getting her special grand jury on May 2nd.

It will have incredible subpoena power and last 12 months instead of 2 months dun dun dunnn.
Georgia prosecutor granted special grand jury in probe of Trump’s efforts to overturn state’s election results - The Washington Post

Oh, this is the Jan 6 thread?
Uhh.

I'm not sure the Republicans can stall long enough to disband the committee after winning the mid terms and then start impeaching Biden.

It's been a whole year now and the suspense is killing me.
What did the Georgia grand jury decide?!

Still don't care about New York.

Hmm, I guess the Jan. 6 committee is all wrapped up now.

“In one day he ended every future opportunity that doesn’t include speaking engagements at the local Proud Boys chapter,” Hicks wrote to Radford on January 6, 2021. “And all of us that didn’t have jobs lined up will be perpetually unemployed. I’m so mad and upset. We all look like domestic terrorists now.”

Hicks added: “This made us all unemployable. Like untouchable. God I’m so f***ing mad.”

See, Trump had a few smart people after all!
Glad to see rational thought sprout up.

If it takes your seeing people storming the Capitol to realize Trump is bad news, I wouldn't count you as terribly smart.

Yes, the J6 commission wrapped up its work before the end of the previous Congress.

We don't know where Georgia stands.

Not if Trump's lawyers have anything to say about it.
Does one (or ones lawyers) get any say if one is called to testify in someone else's court case?

Yeah, that's what I didn't get either. Presumably the lawyers can ask the judge and the judge can issue the subpoena, if he thinks it's appropriate.

Come on, this isn't a matter of smartness, it's a matter of "uh oh, now that there might be consequences for me I will decide this is all a bit of a problem"

Not if Trump's lawyers have anything to say about it. He's a Colonel Jessup waiting to happen. "You're damn right I ordered the code redCapitol storming!!!!"
Failure to comply with a subpoena from a federal court can land one in jail in short order. It's up to the judge. I would imagine the Orange Turd would invoke his Fifth Amendment privilege to every question.

Oh, of course. I was responding to the word "smart" in Katzilla's post.

oops, looks like fbi tried to destroy evidence unsuccessfully and committed perjury lol https://www.politico.com/news/2023/03/09/classified-info-proud-boys-trial-00086357

sounds like evidence of brady violation, but also malicious prosecution.

oops

there is also footage of the shaman guy being escorted with police in front and back, which suggests issues with that trial too. defense requested that and didn't get it i think, but it also simply proves that some of his charges were fake. bad look.

maybe the conspiracy theorists weren't the ones doubting some of the claims about 1/6, but instead those conspiring to make false claims and charges regarding what took place, haha

The same defense that said that Shaman was a idiot, a few cards short of a full deck, and a dupe ?
Then Shaman begged trump for a pardon and then pleaded guilty ?

Lets not forget hes friend whom Brought and wore hes WORK ID with Full name and then filmed himself.

(bolding mine)

Do you realize how desperate you sound when you say things like that?
