Japan SG: Code of Bushido

When I started this game, I had just finished re-reading some of the 1st German SG too.

I grew nostalgic for the days of reckless abandon, and grave do-or-die situations, like the war against Russia and later Egypt.

Thus we now have the perfect vehicle for another chance at such a game.
No rules!!!
A militaristic and religious civ (we can change Govt instantly!).
Temples and cathedrals will be cheap and easy, and we should reap on Great Leaders.

Just remember that there will be no breaking of treaties though.
Death before dishonor is our code. :ninja:

If we plan to attack someone, cancel any RoPs first, or just dont make one in the first place.

All else is fair game. :scout:
Aggression is prefered. ;)

This is a 100% conquest game, no holds barred.

But I learned one thing a long time ago, and that's a good healthy economy allows for a strong military.
Our empire should have many roads and mines, our cities should have temples, granaries libraries and markets. We should be robust traders, and maintain alliances.
Without these things, our science and military capability will suffer.

OK, enough BS out of me, lets just have fun!

X-man is now #1 on my hit-list. :sniper:

Unless future map-trading reveals a better spot, plan on the FP being in...
Persepolis. :hammer:

This map is great!:D

I actually played 14 Turns. That must be a record for me, since I usually play 5 or 10.

And it was a good reign too :)

1. Kyoto recieves Grapes from recently exploited lands.

2. Our people learn how to write. An outstanding achievment I must say. ;) Our bloodthirsty shogunates require a better armour and weapon material, and our alchemists decide to try Iron. Edo is making a temple after sending out nomads.

3. Japan celebrated the annual period of nothing.

4. A barbaric tribe was even more brutally attacked by our warriors, and 25 gold pieces were plundered.

5. Montezuma of the Aztec Tribe offered contact with the Egyptians for 15 gold. We deny him!

6. Tokyo sends forth a new band of settlers, and are now hand-picking workers to work in the fields.

7. Osaka sends out even more settlers, and is building a temple.

8. The alchemists work has payed off, and the wise men now are trying to make an advanced mathematic basis.

9. Russia offers the same deal that Montezuma offered, and we accept due to increasing funds. Kagoshima is founded southwest of Osaka, in the forests of many game.

10. A Russian settler settles in an area where I wanted to settle, and our warriors nearby are ordered NOT to take the city, but we have plans for them... later :hammer:
The settler is ordered to a location just northeast of its location.

11. Edo finishes its temple, as well as Satsuma. Nara is founded in a jungle area that still gets the area I aimed for, but Russia got the best:mad:

12. Cleopatra offers Horseback Riding for 50 gold, and it is such a good deal we cannot refuse. Nagoya is founded in the prime location of the Great Plains. These plains are prime city building, but the Aztecs seem to have gotten most of it already. Nagoya is handily built on a river near hills and plains :)

13 &14.

The game... http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/Japan!.zip

ANd a screenshot of the Race for the Desert! The French have settlers there, and the Russians are surely going to send some. Fools...:crazyeye:

THE SCREENSHOT...

Anyone ever figure out if we can upgrade to/from Samurai?

I haven't gotten around to deleting my saves from our old games. I think I will download them first, upload them to the new place, delete the original and link to the newly uploaded sav. It'll take some time but...

Yes, you can upgrade from horsemen to Samurai. This was the way it was with 1.16, so it is surely the same with 1.17. ANd you can also upgrade them to Cavalry :)

Well boys, we met Cleo. She seems peachy and happy at the moment, but I think she knows our plans... We'll get her later!:D

Iron Research :(
Monarchy without the Great Library?

This could get rough with science.

I don't normally go for Literacy before currency, and also I don't usually go for the Great Library. But if the next person sees fit to change the science to Literacy, I don't mind:) But change it before you start your turns.

But Lee, the Pyramids are not going to be done for a while... we are going to have to choose between them maybe. But hopefullly not...;)

I've started archiving some of our older games. I think that from now on when we start a game we should upload the starting position.

donsig-sama, do you want to take your turn first? :) I can only play in another 10-11 hours, being at 'work' now.

I'm at work now as well. (I do my SG archiving and deleting here - faster computer and internet connection:) ) BUT I'll be home in about three hours and can play then. Should have it posted in time for you to play after work!:D

1175 BC: Marseilles founded in the desert. Stupid French!

1150: More French nomads wander the desert.

1125: Worker relocated to Kyoto.

1100: Temple in Osaka opens for business.

1075: Exploration of Russia begins. Catherine asks us to leave. We ask for a loan before we go. She says she was just about to ask us. Haha. Very funny. We withdraw.

1050: Aztecs working on Oracle / Egyptians on pyramids. We learn math.

1025: Another worker sent to Kyoto.

1000: OMG: the French built another city in the desert right near Kyoto! We almost reach the west coast of Russia.

975: Tokyo temple opens.

950: The franchise expands with another temple in Kagoshima.

925: More exploration inside other countries.

900: We find Moscow.

875: Persian horsemen and warriors near Nagoya. Immortals seen leaving Antioch!

850: Persia declares war. (Xerxes must have been reading this thread.) Our spearmen defend Nagoya against the Persian warriors but fall to the blue horsemen and Nagoya is no more. We kill off the blue horse and establish an embassy in Paris. Joan is polite but will not think of helping us against Persia.

825: Our warrior defiantly pillages near Pasagarde. We lost track of that immortal near Antioch...

800: Oh, there's one - killing our defiant warrior.:(

775: Ghandi allies with Xerses and India declares war on us. (If we survive this India will pay for this insult. )

750: We capture Persian slaves near the ruins of Nagoya.

730: We learn polytheism. Now we can make elephants and..., oh, that's Civ II. Nevermind.

710: Stack of immortals heads for Osaka!  Joan will ally with us for our maps, all our gold (78) and 12g/t. Yes, 12 gold per turn. Our science rate is minimized to raze the income and we accept Joan's "offer". Daimyo Donsig goes to his favorite temple and prays that he gets his money's worth from France...

Here is the save (bushido710bc.zip).

Well, so much for science.

2 turns until Pyramids!!!

Lets exterminate the stinking Persians, devote all effort to making swordsmen and horsemen. We cant defend against immortals, so try to kill them before they get to our cities.

Hit and run with horsemen, close the deal with swords. We will only survive if we out-produce them. Antioch must be captured or destroyed too. Its like a military base right on our border. I prefer capture, but things happen.

Save Osaka at all cost! After Pyramids are done, Kyoto can become a sword factory, big-time!

The Aztecs should be approached about an alliance. I doubt they will go for it, as we now have nothing to offer. Try it anyway.

Argh! I wish it was my turn... :hammer:

Go get 'em Knight-Dragon! :ninja:

EDIT: Well, I wanted do-or-die situations. I guess I better be more carefull about what I ask for.

Wow, never had so much fun for quite some time. :)

A new emperor, Tenno Kenji, rose to power and set out to command the Imperial Army in the field. This will be the war to decide who shall rule in this part of the world. ;)

690 BC - Researching literature. Horsemen damaged 1 imp outside Antioch. Retreated to heal.

670 BC - India declared war on France. The Pyramids were completed and Kyoto became the armory of the empire, pumping out mighty swordsmen at 1 per every 2 turns. :) The Persian imps headed east. Edo? Killed 1 warrior but lost 1 warrior outside Susa.

650 BC - Imps going east!

630 BC - They swung south! Marching thru the mountains, they attempted to take Kyoto unawares!

610 BC - Tenno Kenji held a ceremony on Mt Fujiyama and prayed to the gods for victory. The Imperial Army massed on the mountain (2 tiles north of Kyoto); 2 swords, 4 horses. Facing down the imps on the hills northwards....

590 BC - The Battle of Fujiyama began. 4 imps attked our forces on the mountain. After a heroic battle, the hymns of which shall be sung down thru the generations, 2 imps were killed and 2 more damaged while 1 of our swords was killed. :)

We counterattacked in force and killed remainder both at the loss of another horse. Tenno Kenji held another ceremony and prayed in thanksgiving. The Persian imps had died on the slopes of Mt Fujiyama. :flamedevi

570 BC - Kyoto went into unrest. Our ninja spies sighted another impish stack heading towards Edo. 4 imps and 1 archer.

550 BC - Tenno Kenji led the troops onto Edo and around to meet the onslaught head-on. Sighted more imps tagging along. More opportunities for target practise.

530 BC - Walls of Edo completed in time as imps stacked just NW of Edo. The Battle of Nagoya's Vengeance commenced. After yet another heroic battle, the Imperial Army despatched 4 imps to meet their makers at only 1 horse' loss. :)

510 BC - More imps straggling to Edo in ones. Idiots? Lunatics? Tenno Kenji pondered the idiocy of the Persian generals, before despatching forces to kill 2 imps at no loss.

490 BC - Killed one more imp. Sheep for the slaughter.

470 BC - China declared war on France too. Poor France. The last visible imp turned tail and ran home to Mommy! Persian archer swung by Edo. They didn't survive their folly and a Great Leader was born! Tojo (?????), his name was. He was swiftly brought to Kyoto.

After a glorious field command, Tenno Kenji retired into the monastery on Mt Fujiyama to pray for spiritual enlightment and atonement for the bloodshed incurred during his reign.

Note - The troops are dispersed betw Fujiyama and Edo. 2 more imps sighted in the hills north of Edo.

Saved game is here.

Now, aren't you glad I researcher iron ;)

The Emperor's elite guard are serving well. We scared away the Persians, and the Indians are occupied with the French.

I say we spend tonight praying for our survival once more. And more importantly, that we get vengeance!

Good show Samurai-Dragon!

I was quite worried about this one. We only had four horsemen when attacked. It is not a pleasant thing to be building temples when the immortals are coming at you!

I am humbled. A great victory, Knight-Dragon. You saved our empire!

I salute you!
:ninja::ninja::ninja:

Now, my fellow Shogun, prepare for the second chapter in this war.

I am going to take it to the Persians!:scout:

BTW, my left-click mouse button is going out of whack, so I may have to wait and buy a new one tomorow after work.

Finally, finally managed to log in at work after one gruelsome afternoon and morning. [dance] Stupid cookies.

It was very fun. The imps are easy to pick off using horse, out in the open. And they're slow too. :D

Antioch lies ahead, Shogun joespaniel. :D HINT! HINT! Beware of lurking imps though; saw 2 in the hills north of Edo when I sent out a horse to take out that archer the last turn.

Yes, I am very glad you got us iron. It'll help in taking the Persian cities and the imps too.

France won't survive for long with battering fr the Indians, Chinese, Persians. ;) Pray we make haste and consol before they went caput.

I have a brand new mouse, I dont have to work any nights this week, and my girlfriend is away from home for 4 days.

ITS PARTY TIME!!![dance] [party]

Ive got the game, and you can expect bad things are going to happen to the stinking Persians.

:spank: :splat: [phaser] :slay:

BTW, Knight-Dragon, why do you keep calling Immortals Imps?

Sounds like "Impis". Not that it matters, but I was curious.;)
