Japan SG: Code of Bushido

or: It Aint No Blitzkrieg, But We're Winning!

450BC
Temple in Kyoto finished, and the first of many troops are started. 2 turns for a sword or horse!
Science rate drops to 20% (Lit in 28 turns) due to treaty with France. If we do not get the Great Library, we might as well kiss our @$$ goodbye.
Healed units in Edo advance toward Persia, to link up with other units already in mountains.
Aztec jaguars in our territory are told to leave at swordpoint. They do.

430BC
Our troops kill 2 "mortals" and an archer, for the loss of a sword, in the north-west mountains.
Lots of worker activity, irrigation needed everywhere.

390BC
Strategic withdrawal ordered, as 9 "mortals" come into the mountains, heading for Edo!
We kill 2 for the loss of a sword.
French warrior killed near Antioch, settler captured. Stupid frogs.

350BC
Kill 1 mortal, lose 1 horse. Attrition, my boys, attrition. So far, I think Im actually outproducing them. 5 new swords come to the front, 5 horses in production.

330BC
The chessgame continues, and the Persians pull back. Our troops start to mass for an attack.

310BC The Turning Point.
The advance to Antioch begins in earnest.
Alliance with France expires!!! It is cancelled immeadiately!!!
Science rate jumps to 50% (Lit in 8 turns!)[dance]
RoP signed with France, who has 7 (yes, seven!) techs that we dont. We are the only civ NOT in the middle ages.
If we dont get TGL, we are finished. Period.

290BC
Battle begins near Antioch, ending with an smashing victory. 4 mortals killed for the loss of 1 horse! :nya:
Near Edo, our garrison kills a warrior with a deathwish.
Persian counter-attack destroys 1 spearman and a sword.
France and Russia sign an alliance vs. India. Its becoming a world war...

270BC A Critical Juncture.
2 veteran horse kill 2 mortals, becoming elite! 2 more Persian units buried as well.
A horseman near Edo kills a mortal off on a nature hike.

6 swordsmen and 4 horsemen push right to the walls of Antioch, and are prepared to attack next turn!

I am closing my eyes, and waiting to see whats left after the Persian counter-attack. :cringe:

Will our brave army survive and conquer Antioch ?!?

The brink of victory, or crushing defeat!

Sounds like "Impis". Not that it matters, but I was curious.;)
'Cause in spite of their name, they don't seem that immortal to me. Faster to type than the full name, so I rounded it to imps.

The End Comes Quickly

The Persian counter-attack is harsh, and they kill 2 horsemen and a sword, but it is too little too late. Our superior generalship has worn them down despite their "special" troops.

Our swordsmen sweep aside the defenders of Antioch, and the city is ours!

The food supply is cut off, and we starve the resisters into submission.

The Persians attempt to retake the city, and we are ready for them. 4 more Immortals are destroyed!

Xerxes comes to terms: Peace is signed at long last, for 30 gold (theirs, not ours). The evil Persians have been defeated and paid us tribute.

India also falls in line, as Ghandi decides not to push his luck. Peace is signed with India for 30 gold (again, they paid us) and their territory map.

Literature is discovered, and The Great Library is immeadiately built in Kyoto!

We reap technologies! Code of Laws, Philosophy, Map Making, Monarchy, Currency and Construction. Japan enters a new age, and Monotheism is dropped in our lap too.

All of our cities begin Libraries, to be followed by Marketplaces.
A Monarchy is installed, after a very brief period of anarchy.
We look into Fuedalism, and ofcourse Chivalry after that.

Things look great for the Empire, and we embrace the new found peace.

TGL gives up The Republic, and we are about to change Govt again, when something happens to alter our plans.

The Aztecs send an emissary, and demand tribute from Japan. We politely decline to be blackmailed.

Montezuma declares war on Japan!

Are you done?
Hard to tell from that post.

No sign of a save game,
well I could have play tonight ...

"You want a piece of this?"

Our short-lived peace is shattered by the invasion of Aztec Jaguar warriors, that pour into Japan from the north like a torrential rain.

The great army of Antioch is sent to the border to attack Tzuntzentz-whatever, and we raze their city.

The fast moving Jaguars are impossible to contain, and on offense, could destroy our horsemen.

Instaed of meeting them head-on, we let them come deep into Japan. All the way to Tokyo in fact. A defensive battle is fought to keep them from massing next to the city.

The rest of our army detours out of their range, and hides in Edo and Tokyo. The Aztecs advance en-masse...

Then the trap is sprung! 14 Jaguar warriors are surrounded by our horsemen and swordsmen, and are annihilated! We lose 2 horsemen to a stubborn Jag on a hill.

Our swordsmen now advance on their nearest coastal city, and plan to take vengence on the evil Aztecs. 2 stray Jags are slaughtered on the way.

The Emporer of Japan steps down and appoints his successor: LKendter.

The Aztecs will not hold court with us, thus we must give them more time to see the error of their ways.

More workers, libraries and markets are whats needed now. Not troops.

May he reign wisely. ;)

Well, I got my fill of war. Damn Aztecs, they must be smoking wacky weed to attack us after just beating the Persians into mince meat.

In other news, France is getting pounded by Xerxes and Ghandi, they may go under. Paris is endangered.

China and France made peace, so I bought contact from France and Mao is very polite toward us. He sold me contact with Lincoln for a pitance.

Russia can help them for awhile. We desperately need to improve our cities.

Science rate is 10% because it only gets better at 50%, which causes deficit spending. So for now, Im reaping gold.
We need markets, aquaducts and cathedrals. And a Republic Govt.

I captured some workers, but we still need more.

Everyone is building wonders (Gardens, Wall and Lighthouse), and are too far ahead. I didnt feel like losing out, so I didnt start one. However, we could try for Sun Tzu and Sistine Chapel later, and I think we should.

If we improve our domestic situation now, by the time we get Chivalry, we could really put a hurting on people with our Samurai.

I like my golden age in the middle-ages too. Especially under a republic. :D

Won't finish tonight, but I thought you like to see this.

Preturn -
Well is cost the Republic to China, but we get a complete world map.
Guys, our # of cities a joke compared to the rest of the world.
Trade wines to Russia for Furs and $15. Happy people is always a good thing.
Trade wines to India for $4/turn, $3, and wm.
Sorry, Joe, but a warrior defending Toyko is a joke.
I am going to add some Military - with some mm, Toyko builds a spearman every other turn :)
We don't even make the largest civs of the world list

10 AD - I must give thanks for to the French SUPER spearman, that I watch 2 immortals fail to kill.
30 AD - Since France is keeping Persia busy, I give them horses for almost nothing.
The good thing about Russia - they want our Iron.
The bad thing, we have just 1 source of it.
I realize India also wants spices, so $3/turn and $30.
For $23 I buy a Persian worker - We need the help badly, and it weakens there developement.
Texcoco is ours - costing us nothing - plus we get another badly needed worker.
:) Our 1hp horseman on the mountain lives, another dead Jaguar.
50 AD - Persia and France sign a peace treaty - NOT GOOD.
Fuedalism for Free - I start Chivalry, I have a bad feeling we will need it.
70 AD - OK, I make Persia have to cut there wines from us, if they declare war - will it be enough?
Well Persia is now just annoyed.
[dance] - The Persian that crossed our border leaves, several other turn the other way.
Tokyo begins Pikeman at 3 turns each.
90 AD - I curse Tamuin, as our elite horseman dies - however, we get the prize.
Another Aztecs city falls.
Russia completes the Gardens, how will the cascade go?
Aztecs complete the Colossus.
Everyone one to SunTzu, hope they build it fast.
170 AD - 5 dead Aztec archers costing us nothing.
An Aztec archer kills a horseman.
190 AD - Teot... falls, another spice source one the required roads are completed.
210 AD - Mostly dead Aztecs. Road net extends to Tamiun.
230 AD - Switch Kago to Marketplace so that the 10 shields from chopped forest aren't wasted -
We need very little bit we can get - I save 4 turns on the Market place.
250 AD - Just killing Aztecs.
Peace between France and India.
Engineering for Free.
260 AD - Start beating up Tlat..., just dead Aztecs.
270 AD - How in the world is the a Russian settler / spearmn by Tlax...????
Hirohito comes to lead our People.
280 AD - I hate Tlat... - all of a sudden, our forces are weaker.
290 AD - Tlat... finally falls, and 2 workers as a bonus.
Buy Indian worker for $25.
Forbidden palace offered.
Palace expansion.
300 AD - In a rare move - I rush Sun Tzu - We with war hell we are in - free, permanent barracks sound good. We enter a Golden age.
310 AD - Just 2 cascades to the lighthouse.
I know, you may thing I am zoneing out from sleep depravation, but I give America spices for $5, wm, and a worker. Both potential buyers are broke, and we really need workers. All those need Aztecs cities need work.
320 AD - Theology for Free - Kyoto starts Sistine Chappel, just 23 turns, probably a few more when the GA ends.
330 AD - [dance]Chartes flips to us - temple ordered - eta is just 3 turns - we got a nice city during the GA - we could put very quick pressure on Marseilles.
Egypt starts Chappel.
340 AD - I turn up the science, Chivalry in 8 turns.
India is a military joke - so I trade Horses for $7 and yet another worker. :)

Summary - 4 new Aztec cities added. 1 flip from France, I think a second is very possible. We get Sun Tzu.
I leave you with enough troops to go offensive shortly. Tlaxcala and the silks would be very valuable to us.

Now I hope I don't fall asleep at work tomorrow ;)

Looks very good! Good job, both of you. :D :goodjob:

Let's march on the Aztecs and take over their territory. But watch the Persians.....

But then again, samurai coming. I say we go all out for war and conquer all of Aztecland and Persia. :D And India too, along the way.

Just thought of something I didn't stress -
Chartes should push heavy on culture -
This should flip Marseillies -
Culture in Marseillies could flip the Russian city.

I am not sure if you war happy people think of Culture flipping. Me, I don't care HOW I get this city.

My vote on the Aztecs - :die!:
Consider a single luxury probably saved our butt from Persia.

We went from bad overall to pretty damn good in the last few turns.

I think one of our mistakes was researching things like Polytheism instead of Literature. Bad move. Polytheism should be the last thing reasearched. Maps and libraries are much more valuable. Consider it a lesson learned. :D

But donsig and Knight-Dragon set us up good to fight against the invaders. Great job taking it to Monty, LKendter.

Lets milk the Great Library in this game, and go the gunpowder route after chivalry. And I agree with Knight-Dragon, Aztecs are about to become part of Japan. ;) :scout:

Once we have some Samurai and Monty is severely punished :spank:, I vote for the immediate attack on Persia. After them, India. Just go one at a time. ;)

I would save any more GLs for the FP, which could be built in the north-west somewhere.

I agree with Lee that culture flipping should be the only method of "agression" against France and Russia. Lets go for some flips down south. Just like the Babylon game. ;)

In the meantime, lets get a Republic going (I assume we are still a Monarchy?) and finish some markets. A few more workers would be good too.

Once war is near again, we can switch back to Monarchy in 1 turn. :king:

Ohwell is up. :goodjob:

Things look MUCH better than they did at the end of my turn. You guys are great!:goodjob:

Maybe I'll get to play with samurai on my next turn?

Uh, Joe, why don't you use the new file upload system?

I dont know how.

Does the "link" automaticaly appear in your post?

donsig - Theres a real good possibility you will have Samurai during your turn. :D

Lets go to 10 turns per player soon, so everyone can enjoy the slaughter.

My vote on the next leader - ARMY!
Heroic Epic - Military Academy.

It will be a long time before we can build a usefull FP.
Far enough for our capital to we worthwhile -
Delhi, or Tlaxcala.
Delhi is quite a bit of conquest away.
Tlaxcala is along to narrow of a corridor.

Actually, Thebes looks nice, but that is a long time in the future.
Since the later patches don't allow for 2 leaders at the same time  - get a leader.

Another reason to kill Aztecs - Iron by Tlaxcala - I always like a backup supply.
