Shall be my Capital...
That is my goal is to beat AI for Monotheism - sort of role playing game.

Settings are Monarch, Epic. Normally AI get Monotheism ~2500 BC.
What race/strategy should I use to guarantee to win this race ?

My take is Maya because of Mining/Mysticism and Financial trait.
Most likely I can get Mono by just beelining it but I don't want to get really behind in development and one or two worker techs on the way would be nice.
BW is probably out of question but Agro and Fishing might be doable
Or should I try Carphagen and pray for the coastal start ?

i would go for the Mayas, due to Mystisism and Mining: reseach Maysonry then Hinduism is gone before you get Polytheism done then go Monotheism :D

The Financial trait is a good bet as well, just go Warrior, Warrior, Warrior for the Population to grow so you can work more commercial tiles, just pray for Flood Plains :p

Why don't you just check Choose Religions? None of the AI's have Judaism as their religion of choice and the only way any of them would pick it is if they have no preference (such as the Aztecs, Mayans, Incas, Babylonians, etc.) or if they're already picking their second religion.

Furthermore, if you don't like playing with Choose Religions on, you can pretty much guarantee that you'll get Monotheism if you go straight for it on any level below Immortal. I wouldn't call a religion beeline advisable but then again you're roleplaying so I suppose anything goes. If anything, I'd support a Mysticism start with a Agriculture as a secondary starting tech but I suppose that would make you Huayna Capac, if you're looking for Financial as one of the traits and Mysticism/Agriculture as starting techs.

Here is the game I just started.

As Mosses of Maya in a City of Mutal
(double ss because there is no authentic Hebrew people in CivIV anyway)
I chose Maya because of the perfect fit to the task and also because
UB is a Football Stadium which gives extra +2 :) as we all know, for
Spoiler :

And You'll Never Walk Alone

Game is a mere Monarch, Large map made by Planet_Generator_0_68 with >70% water.
Rules: Thou shall found Judaism, build The Temple of Solomon with first GP
and then found Christianity. After that game is optional but icing on the cake would be AP in the Holy City of Christianity.
You can not found Hinduism - I want AI to compete for Monotheism too.

Any takers ?

Here is the start:
Civ4ScreenShot0004.JPG

Very proper. We start between Sea and Fresh Water Lake which shall
be named Dead Sea for all the tears and sweat of your followers whipped to death...

p.s. It is vanila BtS because my computer runs very slow with BUG.
Graphics is of lowest quality too. So if anybody wants to role play and post screenshots I would greatly appreciate it.

Haha Scouser Spoiler! LOL

But, not the best start but you'll do...

Yes, settling in place and go fishing then beeline Mono... looking forward...

Could not resist

Start is actually not bad for this particular map generator.
I think I'll stay in place and research Fishing first for lake :commerce:
Lack of ocean resourses sucks though.

actually, pretty bad start...only 1 food source and 7 grass tiles. An acceptable start demands 2 foods and decent amount of grass tiles. I would reroll unless you want a challenge.

Well, it is bad for default ingame map generators but about average for Planet_Generator_0_68
---------------------------------------------------------
And so it begins.
Warrior moves south and meet our Neighbours:

So far, God of RNG smiled on us, two huts give some cash and third this:

The Temptation

Now we have AH unlocked. What if we teach it, and work the pigs on the North ?
Surely God wants his children to be fed and well ? He will still reveal His laws and commandments to Children of Mutal, just a bit later.
And then Mosses saw the truth. It is a test of his faith. If he detour from the True Path, God will take other tribe as Chosen People. So pigs have been rejected.
And that is how it became known that pigs are not kosher
Just one more thing you learn about life through Civilization IV :)

And it was very wise, for Hinduism come very soon, even before Buddism.
Civ4ScreenShot0002-hindu.JPG

Normally Mono pops up ~1000 years later and so we must aim ~ 2600 BC
Offer of Pork was indeed a work of Satan.

Few years later, Greeks come from North.
Civ4ScreenShot0010-greeks.JPG
Mutal has reached size 3, all fishing and Mosses ordered Worker as the Sacred Date is coming closer and closer...
Civ4ScreenShot0008-city.JPG

and finally !
Civ4ScreenShot0011-mono.JPG

Our first goal is achived. Time to move on with basics of life.
What should I do next, BW or AH for pigs, kosher or not kosher.

Our Promised Land - Mediterranean Sea

China Land

Nothern Wilderness which hides Greeks:

Map is in fragments because when I zoom out, my video card freaks out:

:(

Save file will be attached to the next post because I am already over the limit here.

Yes, England will be better for this start. Too late now.

Anyway, here is the save at the point we convert to Judaism.

You didn't even bother to rename your capital Jerusalem which is kind of sad seeing how the title of this game is "Jerusalem" and you're all about roleplaying the israelites. Furthermore, it's Moses, not Mosses - forgive me for this correction but I just have to mention these points.

Well, I mentioned Moses/Mosses in one of my posts.
Moses bears too much weight and respect, thought it would be too presumptios of me.
But now once we did not fail to found Judaism, it might be proper...

It is very tempting to rename Mutal to Jerusalem. I leked original name because:

Moses
Maya
Mutal
Mining (start tech.)
Mysticism (start tech.)
Monotheism (the goal)

But why not, I will fix names.

While still at work and unable to play I realised that Phase II of my plan might be very tricky.

Phase I - to get first to Monotheism is rather trivial. Just do it.

But Phase II is not straitforward:
I have to build Solomon's Temple before founding Christianity.
That means first GP is tied up. Second GP might come too late but direct research is kind of slow. Oracling Theology would be nice and I have Marble south from Jerusalem but if I wait for first GP to pop up before completing Oracle, somobedy would snatch it for certain. Should I still make Oracle a priority for +2 :gp: and also to deny it ? Also, if I oracle Confucianism in order to run prists - that would certainly contaminate my Holy City and should not be allowed or I am too strict here ?

Seeing as pigs is the only food resource you have available, using divine power to declare them kosher might not be an entirely bad idea...

"Look, Master, just look on that pig - it is chewing thu cud !"
He was right - The small boar, only about twenty yards away from us was unmistakingly regurgitating and chewing at leasure.
Bless be the Lord ! It is a miracle. How stupid I was to doubt His Gift !
These Pigs must be domesticated and no other task is above it.
--------------------
I turn time back and we shall see how dear AH diversion will cost us in the Quest for Judaism...
---------------------

More blessings from the Hut Gods:
Civ4ScreenShot0000-arch.JPG
We also have Horse halfway to Lake District and China:
Civ4ScreenShot0001-horse.JPG
which makes the obvious place for second city..

And finally, slightly later for my comfort, the revelation.
Civ4ScreenShot0003-mono.JPG

First task complete !
Now time for Bronze, and we got none :(
Civ4ScreenShot0006-nobronze.JPG

But neither is China
Civ4ScreenShot0007-nobronzechina.JPG

Now, WHATEVER people say about our UU Holcan - I surely glad to have it.

For soon we should see the mass barbarians because of the massive forest which covers all the North.
Notice that we don't see Greeks this time but met Sitting Bull. They both are quite far - did not reach either land yet.
Don't think I will be able to fog bust in all this wilderness and would better prepare for the battle. But Holcan and Chariots should take care of it.
Odly, the only barbarian I don't want to see is spears...

Save file is attached - notice I fixed names. Now how should I rename Mutal II
