Jimmy Carter Dies at 100

ATLANTA (AP) — Jimmy Carter, the peanut farmer who won the presidency in the wake of the Watergate scandal and Vietnam War, endured humbling defeat after one tumultuous term and then redefined life after the White House as a global humanitarian, has died. He was 100 years old.

The longest-lived American president died on Sunday, more than a year after entering hospice care, at his home in the small town of Plains, Georgia, where he and his wife, Rosalynn, who died at 96 in November 2023, spent most of their lives, The Carter Center said.

“Our founder, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia,” the center said in posting about his death on the social media platform X. It added in a statement that he died peacefully, surrounded by his family.

As reaction poured in from around the world, President Joe Biden mourned Carter’s death, saying the world lost an “extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian” and he lost a dear friend. Biden cited Carter’s compassion and moral clarity, his work to eradicate disease, forge peace, advance civil and human rights, promote free and fair elections, house the homeless and advocacy for the disadvantaged as an example for others.

“To all of the young people in this nation and for anyone in search of what it means to live a life of purpose and meaning – the good life – study Jimmy Carter, a man of principle, faith, and humility,” Biden said in a statement. “He showed that we are a great nation because we are a good people – decent and honorable, courageous and compassionate, humble and strong.”

Welp, that's it folks. Honestly, guy was more famous for what he did after getting voted out. Lasted over a year in hospice, pretty impressive.

Sad to learn. He was a real force for good. Rest in Peace.

Goodbye to a better man than the country deserves. And a better president than he'll be remembered as.

Great man! I saw him speak when I was in college.

RIP, Jimmy. Not the best president, though he deserves more praise than he gets for his economic liberalization (airports and telecom, especially), but a man of character. He and Jerry Ford both swore to deliver the eulogy at the other's funeral if they perished first.

Except Jimmy actually deserves it.

Jimmy was special. Incredible that the nation held the nebulous thoughts in his head against him personally since they had no better ammunition than than that to be dbags to the peanut farmer.
The only thing I remember Carter was his post presidency of his diplomacy mission and his volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity. Prior to his presidency; A peanut farmer, and his career within the naval nuclear reactor program. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary in Carter's Administration except for apathy and distrust to the federal government after the fallout the Nixon Administration, The Iran Hostage Crisis, The 1979 Oil Crisis, and SALT II. I'm sure there's more that brushed passed me.

decent man , brave soldier/sailor , prevented the first ever nuclear meltdown .

also the start of the American brand of Jihadists . Some challenging his peace activism , too .

Possibly the only US president that opposed the South American dictatorships of his time, even those that were/claimed to be aligned with the US.
