What would the grand people of Deimos like to be seen done in Joespaniel?

Crusader. English recently tried to invade Unknown City close to the south. Also, the Chinese have just landed on Joespaniel island. This corner of our empire is becoming quite an hot spot. :crazyeyes

Crusader, in fact, that settler should be switched to a crusader, and then the settler built.

Cursader.

I think we should switch to a crusader and hold off on the settler until after. A settler is no good if more armies land and destroy it.

I'm much more apt to build military in some of our older cities and ship them out rather than these fringe cities building the unit. The older cities have better production and will be less affected if they have to support a unit or two.

After the settler, I would think that possibly a temple would be a good choice. If we feel that it will be such a huge target for enemy landings, then maybe city walls or something like a diplomat. Hey we have a pretty nice treasury at 713 gold.

My vote would be for temple.

Another thought:

I see in other screen shots that a Chinese settler has landed on the island near Joespaniel.

Might I suggest that we move one pikeman out of the city to the grassland space adjacent? This would block the settler from moving to the other end of the island.

Will zones of control block it? I don't know if I'd take the chance as this island offers a great site for a second city.

Good idea Kev! I don´t remeber where that settler is, but it would be great it we managed to block it.

By looking at the thread that deals with the building in Deimos, the settler is on the grassland tile due north of the city.

Moving a pike to the shileded grassland in the northwest would therefore block the settler. Again, I don't know if this is totally up to date or if zone of control will block it, but I don't think it will hurt us to move the pike as suggested. We have no happiness issues as we're in a Monarchy, and if an attack is seen on the horizon it can move back to the city in short order.

If the settler tries to go around the city to the south, it's a quick move for the pike to the forest square to block it again.

Blocking the settler is a good move.. I thought that if you kept the pikeman next to the settler (shadow) then it will deter them from building a town .
couple of questions..
Do we want them to settle on the island(thinking about stealing tech and bribing cities)
Can we not demand them to leave our area
Will our city go into civil unrest due to the exiting of a pikeman

#1. Actually, there'd be no need to shadow if we simply block it from the other part of the island. This way, the pike would still be next to our city to enter if needed. The settler would also remain next to our city and we can deal with it as we see fit while always keeping an eye on it.

#2. Knowing how the AI places their cities, allowing them a city may ruin our chance of having an optimal site being used. However, the thought does have its merits. The Chinese do have the Great Library and could be our tech rivals for the short term. They will likely have some "filler" techs like Bridge Building that we could help ourselves to. Just have to watch for war. I'd still rather colonize the island with a better-placed city and steal techs from their other cities if desired.

#3. Can we ask them to move their settler? I do think that they are considered military so I think that we can. However, we maywish to consider bribing the settler. Asking them to move could also create another civ that we're at war with as well.

#4. Great point about the unrest. I failed to consider that. However, with Mike's and this city's size for now we may not have an issue immediately. Also, we are building another military unit after the settler (or instead of the settler - don't know how that finally panned out) so that will help us when the city does grow.

Crusader, or Trireme, depending on what is around and what can be gotten to this isolated city. We must be prepared to defend this city, and will need the Crusader to do that effectively. We also need Triremes to continue exploring, and find out where the Chinese are coming from. Switch to Crusader now, then build the settler.

Crusader, I think most of us agree to produce military units in the Deimos province to attack our enemies who have already shown too much interest in our land.
