thanks ori

Evrett, please do bring a tripod and a self-timer camera. We'd like to see the picture of your lone self standing in front of the Firaxis office with your carton protest sign. You may wear a mask if you prefer to remain anonymous.

What's so hateful about steam? As long as you don't violate the SSA, there's no problem. If you intend to violate SSA, then that's your problem.

And what if you violate the SSA without intending to? That's also your problem. :mischief:

@evrett (to ensure I'm partly on topic :))
Are you intending to go through with this protest? How can you do it given the physical layout of the office complex that has been described?

well sadly not a single person has shown interests so at the moment its just going to be me looking for a tour..

However the layout is not anything to be concerned about. It a peaceful protest not a guerrilla raid..assuming I had 10~ fans with cellphone cameras and another 10 hired day laborers... Escorting off that many people using passive resistance techniques would be expensive, time consuming and full of liability. Just think of all that bad press and its not like they have 20 mall cops ready at any given moment anyways. In all likelihood they would negotiate rather than go through the effort of trying to move us.

OR they would stay in their office building taking pictures and videos of you, then laughing at them.

Seriously, there are far more important things to protest than a Firaxis (most likely 'reccomended' by 2k) choice. Why not protest against those right-wing nutjobs who believe that the democrats are [insert random harbinger of the apocalypse here].

i dont think "we" can change government.."we" might be able reach the hearts of a few devs and rescue the game.

How? All distribution agreements and assorted tasks are already accomplished or nearly accomplished.
While many people are not a fan of steam (I'm fine with Steam, I just can't stand DLC), its here to stay. As Truman said when he integrated the military: "Tough Cookies".

I await pictures of you protesting on your lonesome own on June 23rd. If we don't see pictures of your protest then, we know you are crazy.

You are equally at loss at both. Especially with the amount of support behind you. Now, while I realise that companies relies on the public for sales and revenue, even government needs the same; the public provides them with power.

However, you see it is this. Just like with government, companies needs a majority before they change decisions. However, while it is often very transparent about who is the majority during government elections; the people (well or the electoral college depending on what kind of voting system you have), it is not when it comes to companies. Yes, most of the customers could be individuals, but other companies, organisations, governments and whatnot may be pulling strings in their direction.

But to change any of these, you need a strong public opposition to a decision taken by a company or government. Most of the people who disapprove of Steam aren't really that angry about it. You know why? Because unlike a war in Iraq or new federal laws, Firaxis or 2K Games aren't using your tax money on this. You can simply not buy the game, and that's why it is much harder to get frustrated against this decision, especially considering, it isn't that bad a decision.

And would you seriously think, that even if you did manage to get a good deal of protesters, that they would change their decision? This late in the development progress?

Evrett, why don't you list out exactly what a protest would achieve this late in the development process? This process seemed to work well in discussions in the OT forum, and I hope you are better at posting than right-wing fundamentalist nutjobs.

and another 10 hired day laborers
Wow. I *so* wish this happens. A bunch of day-laborers protesting about a computer game? Comedy gold. I feel sorry for them already.

I also love how Everret thinks Firaxis will "negotiate". They aren't going to change anything because some guy turns up with a bunch of day laborers. FYI: If you do what you say you're going to do (Although don't expect any "fans"), you could easily be charged with trespassing, or disturbing the peace. And no day laborer would allow themselves to be put in a position where they could be fined/arrested (and if you lie to them, then that's another thing all together). I think Everett doesn't understand the real implications of his actions, and the fact that no company will respond to a protest by one guy.

It sounds like a Tea Party protest

Nah. Tea party protests are more racist and less logical (but have a higher chance of getting something done.)

Bj it sounds like your experience with the realities of the legal system is limited. Many civil laws, like "trespassing", are like the black globes in department stores..they are facades there to scare people. How those laws are enforced differs by region and Maryland isnt Texas. While it is "possible" for the Sparks police to pursue a charge against someone for trespassing, it is very very very unlikely Firaxis or the city would want to pursue anything because of the logistics and costs involved, not to mention the PR. Again in all likelihood I'm sure the company would rather work something out before getting press about throwing loyal fans in jail. and I'm certain the city would like to avoid paying to run 20 people through the justice system for a very minor act.

The police may remove you from the area (which will take time, a ton of cops, and look bad for Firaxis) but without a protective order from a court no one is going to get charged with anything at a peaceful protest.

loyal fans in jail
How are you a *loyal* fan, given your behavior in this forum? [Most particularly the abuse to 2k staff.]

Or did you mean the day laborers?

paying to run 20 people through the justice system
You really think day laborers and your hypothetical co-protesters are going to hang around after being asked to leave by security? Wow.
