John Ashcroft, head of our Moral Police, has now taken steps to see that The Lady Spirit of Justice and her mate, two beautiful statues in the main hall at the Justice Dept that have stood since early this century, are covered up during press conferences and such.

What a pig. What's wrong, John? Couldn't find any Burkas?

I'm sure he makes the Taliban proud.

Hhhmmm....well, everything I've seen on this, including the 20 second piece on the GOP, er, Fox News Channel said it was Ashcroft that ORDERED this.

And, RM, that bronze breast has been hanging there for 70 years. Funny Ashcroft is the first to notice.

Sheesh, you can't go ANYWHERE in Washington without seeing classic art like this.....like this as in nude.

No way to spin this.

I suppose its possible someone else ordered it done, but it sounds like it has Ashcroft written all over it to me.

And besides, if his department spends $8,000 dollars on what amounts to an oversized Burka, he's responsible, no?

Or does he have guys running all over the place there spending thousands of dollars on this and thousands on that without his permission?

Talk about waste in government.

Okay, I can kind of understand why Ashcroft wouldn't want oversized body parts in the background when he's making speeches. It could be distracting.

What I don't understand is, why doesn't he just stand somewhere else?

I'm really sick of you accusing FOX of being a "right-wing" news organiziaton, and defend CNN as one that is completely without bias...

You need to read Goldberg's book.

There is no such thing as an entirely objective news network or media outlet.

Also understand that what goes on or stays off the air is not determined by the public but by a board of executives who decide what will most likely gain the public's attention without compromising the network's ratings.

The four tenants of newsworthy material are violence, sex, celebrity and scandal. Ratings mean money. Money means everything.

Hurray for everything.

I'm sick of people trying to get me to read Goldberg's right wing book. :D

I've seen him interviewed a number of times....dude isn't exactly unbiased, RM.

And Fox is way biased. I've never claimed that CNN wasn't. Although I don't believe they are anything like Fox in relation to the center. Fox is much further from the center than CNN. They have their fair share of conservative reporters and analysts. Candy Crohley, or however you spell it, is a big Bush lady.....no that wasn't a comment on her girth, either.

Fox is a 24 hour campaign add for George Bush.

When they had the nerve to hire Geraldo Rivera (i hate that guy, btw), you should have heard people complaining.

Let me just say that, if you are a Fox watcher, RM, I am not in the least surprised.

In fact, all of the networks have their fair share of conservative analysts. Openly liberal personalities in the media are FAR, FAR fewer in number than openly conservative ones.

Sure, occasionaly I spot left leaning bias. But, even on CNN, I seem to spot right leaning bias far more often.

We need a liberal version of that big fat idiot Rush Limbaugh! :D

Art is of course in the eye of the beholder. Also, the art would be in the total piece, not one part of it. There are plenty of people that are offended by bare breasts (Thankfully I'm not one of them). Should these people have to see one constantly on their television when viewing a statement by a member of their government? Its one thing to be angry that these people don't want this artwork in a public museum, another to be angry that they don't want it in their home.

I think it is rather harmless if the statue is covered during press conferences. If they decide to move it to the basement, or sell it for scrap, my opinion will change.

We need a liberal version of that big fat idiot Rush Limbaugh!

I wonder why there isn't one?

Come on now, do you really want the liberal cause to be championed by a big fat idiot?

And if you do, well, there's always Ted Kennedy.

Because conservatives would  about the liberal media bias.

Actually, there are, but they aren't so prone to hyperbole and straight bullsh!t as a Limbaugh.

They are more responsible and, thus, less entertaining during your drive home.

Whow wants to hear someone saying, "The responsible thing is to not spend more than you take in."

It's so much more fun to, as you head home to catch Stone Cold Steve Austin smackin' his be-ahtch up, listen to a Rush Limbaugh say, "If it were up to me, you wouldn't have to pay ANY taxes. All the gov't wants to do is take your money from you. Well, I say that is YOUR money."

This reminds me. RM, I would suggest to you a great piece of literature. "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.....and Other Observations" by Al Franken.

A gloriously HILARIOUS book....trust me, even a staunch, unwavering conservative can have some laughs from this tome.

Certainly not me. This is not the universal piece of logic some people seem to think it is. It works to a degree, but if I spent less than I take in I wouldn't have a house. I'd still be living in an apartment and wishing that I had the money to buy a house. I also might be walking to work, which is far enough away that I'd have to never leave. Gladly people starting businesses don't follow this piece of advice. I can't imagine the dificulties that an entrepenuer would have if they limited expenditure to income.

Don't get me wrong, I understand your point, and would love if the government trimmed and balanced their budget, but congress doesn't listen to itself, and each member has their own pet projects. That's why they stay there so long. It isn't because Graham or Kennedy are such wonderful people, its because they bring home the pork. Senator Bird is a great example. Unless memory fails, he is a democrat from a largely republican state. They keep him because he is good for the state. They won't give up their pet projects, or sacrifice their positions to eliminate waste because they like the position and the attention.

Ah, the eternal buget deficit debate. Yes, deficit spending has its place. The key is to make sure that what you spend the money on is going to benefit the person, or the family, or the nation, in the long run.

If I take out a loan to buy a car, it increases my mobility and lets me make more efficient use of my time. If I take out a loan to go on a vacation, that just increases my debt burden with no return, right? But wait, what if I write and sell an article about where I went? What if I meet someone there and it leads to a new job, or a marriage? It's never a simple equation.

The problem is, most people, whether they're liberal or conservative, want simple answers. "We shouldn't pay taxes!" is a simple answer. So is "Everyone will benefit if we spend more on education!" What the big fat idiots of the world are doing is saying "Don't bother to think, here are the answers. Oh, by the way, buy my book."

Hah!! That is what a goof public library is for.

Don't forget that that vacation keeps you mentally balanced and keeps you from snapping one day and machine gunning your co-workers, or stabbing your family. Its hard to put a monetary value on such things, but it is nice to avoid them.

Yes, and Mr. Ashcroft spent a nice little $ 8,000.00 on the curtains over the statue.

The problem is he is religious right, and therefore hates nudity in all its forms.

As for the News Networks, I have concluded that they are all biased. the best I would say is C-Span - at least you get Democrats and Republicans spanningthe most liberal to most conservative and once in a while a 10-second Nader spot

A very good internet news site is:

www.unknownnews.net

PLease check it out - I do every day!
