Alright!
So I downloaded the demo yesterday and played like three full games (all the way up till the turn 100). I'm sharing some of my thoughts in this thread.
1. Open borders bug. I had a warrior trapped by Augustus Caesar's cultural borders and I didn't have optics technology to escape by sea. So, of course I wanted to sign an open borders to get my warrior away from emptiness. I did so, but when I tried to move my warrior to Augustus Caesar's landscape, the game told me that would be a declaration of war. So I didn't, and opened the diplomacy screen again to make sure I have open borders with him. And I did. I tried again, but still didn't work. Bah.
2. Rivers are really, really ugly. Nuff said.
3. I don't like how you must click all the city-state messages in order to end the turn. This is probably because of my noobiness, but I couldn't care less of some city-state's requests that is located at the other end of my island. I think there should be an option to choose from which city-states you want information about.
4. Controlling like 8 army units reminded me of a work. In fact, controlling everything felt rather clumsy. But that's probably because of my noobiness, again. Anyway, this UI requires you to move your mouse all over the screen. All the way from left to right, from right to left... And that is rather annoying with this wide screen, pfft. I think I should learn the hotkeys for this game...
5. City-states are really hard to conquer. At least Dublin, that fought harder than city-states usually do because of my large army (some kind of random event thing). I failed to take it with, like, 8 units (blame my noobiness again).
Anyway, I think this game has a great potential. The demo just wasn't for me, as I don't enjoy Civ IV games with settings like that (standard time, small, continent etc.) either. I prefer quick, smaller scale games with realistic maps, such as earth and europe ones. I guess I just have to wait for the whole game and then try again.
Thank you for reading!
