Keeping MP Interesting

I have a problem, folks.

I have several friends that I've introduced to Civ V, and we all enjoy playing multiplayer together. But our multiplayer matches can be somewhat... lopsided, to say the least. It varies with how bad my start is and how seriously I play, but the bottom line is that they just aren't on the same skill level as I am. That's not me bragging: I play the game on Immortal difficulty while some of them have never even gone beyond Prince, and it shows when I end up chugging along with everyone two eras behind me.

I'm looking for interesting ways to approach the game that could give me more of a challenge and potentially even out the playing field for my opponents: unusual strategies and unorthodox victory paths that I could try to mix things up a bit.

Any suggestions?

Why don't you start by teaching them. Simple stuff that you take for granted could very well have passed over their heads such as production focus, locking tiles and specialists, good city locations and early game build orders.
If they play at prince as you say these things could very well be something they've missed.

If you don't want to teach them I'd suggest letting them know about some streamers.
I'd recommend filthy's youtube. He has a few clips that teaches aswell as big games that he explains very well.

There are more streamers out the ofcourse, but I like his style.

Teach your friends so that they can pose a challenge. Also, try playing with other people besides just your friends. You will find some highly skilled individuals playing in the public scene. Granted you will be subjected to quitters and jerks but it will certainly be more interesting than playing with the same people repeatedly.

The basic thing to teach is that science and growth are priority.

An alternative that you can take is to set your difficulty to deity and let them play on prince or below.

But I guess that you already do this. Riiight?
