I have Civ 4, Warlords and Beyond The Sword I used to be able to play them with no problems what so ever but now all of them crash to desktop saying Civ IV has encounted a prob blah blah blah sometimes it can take an hour sometimes only 5 mins its so frustrating because I love this game. I have changed nothing on my pc other than normal windows updates. I know my pc needs updating but as I said never used to have any problems. Since it has started playing up I have uninstalled and reinstalled made now difference and have all the updates for the games. All drivers are up to date and so forth. Anyone with any ideas?

what exactly does the error say? When it happens click the details tab and see what the exact error is.

It just says Sid Meier's Civilization 4 : Warlords(was playing this one at the time) has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Not quite sure what you need out of the error info but the Error signature says sxAppName: Civ4Warlords.exe szAppVer: 2.1.3.0 szModName: hungapp szModVer:0.0.0.0 offset: 00000000 (I bought this info up twice the first time the offset said 003d8a35) please let me know if you need anythings else

welcome to cfc :)

could you look into the windows event manager and see if there are any other error messages relating to the games?

also: is there any other process running in the background? like anti-virus software etc?

also: I believe the below is a slightly newer driver for your graphics card:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html

One thing I am going to try is, I have just bought CivCity Rome was playing fine while the patch was downloading then as soon as it installed this game started to do the same thing so I have uninstalled them all and am going to install them all with no patches and see how that goes. In the event manager the errors are either hang module hangup or faulting module. I do have the anti-virus running but I have tried turning that off and it made no difference. I will let you know how I go with trying this. Thanks for the driver update its downloading now.

Didn't make any difference think im going to have so save up and buy a new tower.

Man, I'm getting the same errors. I think it might have to do with memory, though I'm not entirely sure.

"Faulting application civ4beyondsword.exe, version 3.1.3.1, faulting module cvgamecoredll.dll, version module 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0002de05."

I dunno what to make of that, but it's the data of the error.

There's another file logged as the error which says "fault bucket 884056365"

I don't know what it could be.

Maybe I should explain that I'm playing the Rise of Mankind mod.

ok that helps a bit - does it have event ID 1001 in that error report by any chance?
This seems to be a memory access violation error. These have multiple causes and are generally a pain to troubleshoot

This kind of error is the result of the game trying to access a memory address that is not available to it. Now with any program the most common reason is sloppy coding, however Civ4 is generally quite stable and one should assume that any such crash due to the code would be much more widespread so the next possibilities are:

graphics card and sound card drivers that don't work properly - try updating them as well as DirectX
a faulty memory address on your physical memory (RAM) - you could try testing for that using memtest86
a faulty memory address on the graphics card - there is no good way to test it except ripping out the card and putting a new one in - if it does not crash the card was faulty
a piece of malware or a very eager anti-malware program that wreaks havoc with your system memory - disable any program that runs in the background and make sure that there is no malware on your computer

The event IDs are 1000 and 1001. I had suspected it had something to do with the memory.

I think I'll be trying those options out...thanks very much and I'll update how it goes! :)

Sorry I didn't answer running around with xmas. The errors in windows error report faulting application civ4beyondsword.exe, version 3.0.0.93 faulting module unknown and or it says hang module hung up thats all they say

downloaded it from one website wouldn't extract kept coming up with error but why would this help me overall when it is all three games that are doing the same thing

the one error message you posted is for a non-patched game - so all troubleshooting will start with patching it...
also if there is another (patched) game crashing: what is that error message? and what error comes up when you try to patch?
