So this post is directed more towards cfc posters that have quit smoking/ are in the process of quitting smoking.

It is the worst, crappiest and hardest habit I've ever had to kick. (at the moment I'm smoking gah!) What methods did you use? Cold turkey? Did you wean off? Any specific activities or habits you replaced it with? I frequently spend long amounts of times away from cigarettes and like, any place where I could buy them when I'm travelin or camping and stuff, and yet, whenever I get back to my comfort zone, I end up having a drink, and that drink leads to me buying cigarettes, and then there are leftover cigarettes from that night and I end up being right back where I started, it's almost unconcsious kind of. So what would you do if you were quitting smoking. I recognize how bad it is for my health and all that and I do really want to stop, but I have such bad anger issues if I don't smoke for like a week, I'm completely insufferable. What would you do?

What I find funny is that people's who've quit smoking are as tough on smokers as born-again Christians are on me.

My brother quit. He first switched to a stronger brand, thinking he could cut down the number of smokes in a day, 'cause each would last longer. Big mistake for him. Then he quit cold turkey. But, he was in a fairly willful stage of his life at that time.

If I did smoke, I would try the patch or gum. I don't know how addicting smoking is, but I would try to do it as cheaply as possible first (cold turkey), if I could not handle it then I would try something else.

I've gone back and forth several times and am currently a smoker. It's a ***** to quit for sure.

I've opened thread recently here about book "Easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr.

It helped me to quit in most painless and happy way. (also to many smokers I know)

It is highly recomended to those who want to stop smoking.

I'm going to have to check that out, thanks for the tip. I've done cold turkey a few times and even got up to one year. Deployments, divorce and deaths in the family with the nic fits while stressed out were just too much sadly

Could you link it Leha? I didn't catch that thread.
@ Godwynn, the patch and gum both make me seriously, violently ill. And I still want to smoke haha. It's not so mucha physical addiction i dunt think, it's just like, jeeze i'm so used to it whereever i go, and with everything that I do since i've been smoking since i was 11, it's kind of been a big part of my life in a weird way (drinking coffee, listening to music, sex, doin drugs, or drinking, every activity requires a stogie.)

One of the strong things about this book is - stresses and other smoke-stimulators will not bother you anymore :)

Doing drugs makes you smoke cigarettes?! You are far too gone for my help. You have passed the event horizon.

Do X and smoke a newport.

Case settled. They don't make me smoke cigarettes, they just make smoking cigarettes...really really good.

I find it most disgusting to preach to smokers when you quit. I remember how I was outraged when some happy quitter would come to me and start explaining bad sides of smoking.

However when someone wants to stop smoking and asks my advice about good way, I gladly help.

Noooo. It just clears your mind of BS you tell yourself every day just to smoke another cigarette, and another cigarette.

Try self loathing, worked like a charm for me. Think about what a weak willed spineless animal you are. You dont want to smoke, but look at you, puffing away. Who's in control, you or the meat? Thats what did it for me.

I dont want to quit smoking ;). I like it! I just love sitting in the fresh air during a mean rain shower smoking a zig. And as long as im clubbin I won't stop it anyways.. But I have stopped smoking at school.

I suspect that's a dosage thing. A co-worker got seriously woozy from the patch. If you try the gum, try only chewing a 1/4 piece (mixing it with a normal piece of gum for volume). That would reduce the dosage.

Honestly, I think that might be my best bet.

"How long you been smoking for, Pyrite?"
Almost 8 years, 11 yrs old.

I duno, I tried the patch at the lowest dose available (American cancer society like sponsored me a patch heh) and for the next two days I was so ill it was like I was dopesick haha. I was spewing out green goop and my muscles ached so sore. Didn't know what a nic od was till then, don't fancy it again. The gum didn't really do me right, I wanted a cigarette as if the gum was just a cigarette, in like another hour.
