I posted this strategy in a thread in general discussions, too, but I think it deserves its own thread ;)

I've probably played the perfect game with Korea (standart settings, continents, emperor).

Screenshots tell more than a 1000 words.

1st) I managed to get Electronics (mech infantry) on turn 173 (year 1130AD, look at the production queue)
2nd) 2 turns later I opened the Militarism social policy so I could rush-buy a few mechinfs for ~700 :c5gold:
3rd) I still had my oxford university (two free techs because of korean tech boost) and two additional free techs from Scientific Revolution -> Lasers on turn 189 :)
4th) Domination victory on turn 220, sniping capitals in one turn with modern armor :D

I only built three cities and didn't attack anyone before mechinf. Oligarchy and one militaristic city state was enough for defense.

Buildorder:
Scout -> Worker -> Granary -> Settler @ pop 3-> Temple of Artemis -> Library (tech boost to Mathematics) -> Hanging Gardens -> Settler -> Mausoleum of Halicarnassus -> National College -> Hagia Sophia -> Porcelain Tower with engie -> Academy

Buildorder in 2nd and 3rd city:
Rushbuying a worker -> Library -> Granary (and quick water mill to fully "exploit" the TOA) -> university

The delayed library gave me a decent boost to mathematics and oh boy, temple of artemis + landed elite + tradition finisher + hanging gardens is just insane.

After mathematics I teched my way to education and built universities, temples, markets and workshops for all the specialist slots.

With all those specialists, my tech rate was much faster than with any other civ and my cities still grew. Thanks to tradition finisher + TOA. Signing RAs and Secularism did the rest.

Best Civ in the game

Especially Monty was well defended against my modern armor. Quite amusing :D:D

Hmm. They need to hire you to promote things like this really.

Tomorrow I shall download the new DLC and give Korea a shot. Well played sir.

New DLCs plurl. You need both to play as korea and build the ancient wonder. Only Difference I noticed it that the AI building ancient wonders allows me to grab GL havent tried SH yet dont play cultural often.

I have two issues. Firstly, you did not state the difficulty on which you are playing.

Secondly, no thinking being should ever have the non-critical thought process that goes "something is really powerful? I need to buy that for my strategy game." Making powerful civilizations for DLC blurs the line between content and farmville power-ups that makes worry I will one day become outnumbered by people who buy this crap.

Yeah Korea seems to favor tall cities with lots of specialists for the +2 science bonus. I think they are also an awesome OCC civ. Wouldnt call them best civ in the game yet, did you use GS to bulb or did you make academies?
Lord Chambers, he is playing on Emperor difficulty level. I have only played Korea on emperor and for me too, it was a breeze, but then again, anything on Emperor is a breeze really. I will try an immortal game tonight see how that goes. I could try deity but I am not familiar with the new wonders, and tradition seems a lot stronger now.

Including aquaducts in this setup is even more powerful. I had a capital growing like mad with HG + ToA + aquaduct + tradition.

You might find that if you post your opinions without the attitude others would be more inclinded to listen.

To be fair, most DLC civs (except Babylon) are either low- or mid-tier. Most of the really powerful civs (think Siam, Songhai, France, ...) are vanilla civs.

Korea becomes really powerful mid to end game, when Rationalism/Freedom trees are opened up. Their science goes through the roof, and with a tall empire you can spam out free persons and if you have the right wonders you can live in a constant golden age. Loving this civ.

This is certainly far from perfect. And I can polly do it with any civ at emperor lvl , win it at a much much earlier date.

Your reply isn't really helpful and this thread isn't about how to win as fast as possible on emperor. Pangaea maps are always faster, for example.
Getting mech infs on turn 172 and modern armor on turn 189 are the more important dates here.
It's just fun to fight archers with modern armor and I certainly haven't achieved these dates with any other civ before (in this patch).

So if you think you can do it earlier, I'd love to see your strategy ;)

I built two academies and bulbed the rest. First bulb was biology I believe.

I'll assume this comment was directed at my response.

Did you perhaps think the grand plan was that now Korea, an apparent high tier civ has been released as DLC, I would endeavour to download and play it in every game from then onwards? Obviously an overpowered Civilization will give me the edge over the AI even on harder difficulties, and beating other players will be simply trivial!

Unfortunately not. It's an expansion, not an upgrade. I'd be interested to try a science victory with Korea, but what after that? Another one? No, they become simply an overall part of my game. As it stands, Korea is the only DLC I don't posess yet. Did I buy the others because they were better? No, I bought them because they were different, and the lack of variety in basic Civ starts to kill me when I run into Bismark every goddamn game.

Don't buy them if you don't want - some people don't, some do. However do not think for one moment that anyone appreciates having their opinions rammed back down their throats as "wrong".

EDIT - On topic. I just played a game as Korea, and got smashed hard because the Ottomans decided they wanted to expand super-fast, super-early. Despite never having more than two cities, being in constant war and being taken out by about turn 400, I remained the scientific leader. I was able to build Infantry while opponents were still working with Longswordsman. Unfortunately only having a very small empire limited me in the Industrial/modern era, when people started to catch up. If I'd planned better from the start, that would have been a very easy scientific/domination win. The Korean Science bonus is powerful.

Just finished winning a Science victory with Korea. A very fun civ to play with. Specialists are the way to go as i had Seoul 40+ population with all the specialist slots full making crazy science with just four large cities. I also had Hanging Gardens, Temple of Artemis, and full Tradition Tree so my capital was growing like crazy. The only problem i have with this civ is that i feel if you don't go tall or at least semi tall the UA loses some power but you can still have really good scientist specialist if thats the only one you want for wider empires.

I usually feel that Emperor difficulty level is just the right challenge for me, however, in the two games I've played as Korea so far I've dominated to such a ridiculous degree that I'm considering jumping up to immortal next time I play them.

The first game I played was a domination game. I only had 3 non-puppet cities throughout most of the game, and I still managed to get insanely far ahead in science mid-game. As soon as the Hwa'chas became available I conquered half the continent (they are absolute monsters, even against cities they are amazing) and soon found myself running around with highly promoted Rocket Artillery facing off against Longswordsmen and the occasional Rifleman.

The second game was a science victory with no conquering whatsoever. I only founded 3 cities and went tall. Even though my plan failed somewhat (cities never grew beyond 14-15 in size due to Alex buying up every maritime CS on the map and forcing me to keep a fairly big army around to avoid war) I still managed to pull off a science victory waaaay ahead of any AI even being close to any victory type.

TLDR: Korea is INSANELY strong! I highly suspect a nerf to their UA and maybe even the Hwa'cha in an upcoming patch.

Fun stuff Huhn. Good job. :)

/hopes to see thread turn into a contest on who can field Korean MechInf the fastest

How do you get the resource picture pointing at resources?

Click the small scroll next to your mini-map and click the "show resources" or something (can't remember the name).

Did my first Korean Diety Domination win this weekend. Standard map, Pangea, Marathon speed:

Also, I noticed that unemployed citizens get the +2:c5science: from Korea's UA :)

what tech do you take when you start ?

I'm pretty sure that my tech order was Pottery -> Mining -> Archery -> Calendar (?) -> Writing -> Mathematics

Also, I noticed that unemployed citizens get the +2:c5science: from Korea's UA :)

I wonder if this can be used for a rush to education or steel/hwachas. And thanks for posting :)

Nice domination - sweet of you to leave the city states alone :p

They were all my allies... As you can see from my gold, I didn't have any trouble buying them all over. Even bought a few just after a war when they were full in Angry (didn't take Patronage).
