Hey guys. Don't know if you guys know (or care) but I thought I'd like to share.

Civilization V was featured as one of the 12 best PC games on Kotaku.

Good old kotaku, still failing at journalism as usual I see! There are too many gaming blogs who think they are actual journalists.

I do like the game so I didn't want to take a cheap jab but, "Maps are easier to navigate..."? I certainly wouldn't list that as one of the games strong suits.

A more apt title for the article would probably be more like:

"So you just got a PC and you are wondering what's around in PC gaming these days? Here are some suggestions".

and probably not some thing that implies BESTEST THINGS EVER.

I stopped reading after the worlds "real time strategy game."

sounds less like journalism and more like marketing. meh

I agree that the title should change from "best ever" to "fun suggestions"

'best' usually contains some meaning of 'pioneer', 'original' or 'avant garde'

this list is more about 'popular sequels' methinks.

Wow, that's sad. I hope it's not a well-recognized site. Civilization V didn't work, and I certainly see no need to praise it. I hope for a much-improved Civilization VI - so far I'm still playing Civilization IV.

Kotaku, part of the Gawker family of websites, is pretty damn big. :)

Important precision at the last paragraph :

''Not for Those Who Want: Older Civ games. Civilization V is no incremental sequel, and the difference could alienate die-hard fans of the historical franchise.''

As myself a die-hard fan, it didn't alienate me, but surely did for some other players.

That pretty much proves that the author never played Civ5, or any of the other Civ games, and is just posting games that he's heard from others are good. And that whoever edited the piece hadn't played any Civ games, either. Thus it's a pretty uninformed piece, and doesn't mean hardly anything.

I'd actually be in favor of un-placing this on the front page since it's so obviously poorly researched. You'd probably be hard pressed to find a CFC member who'd do worse - even if they'd never played Civ5, at least they'd know that no Civ game, even Civ Rev, has been real time.

Map navigation is another giveaway. When has that ever been a problem?

About the only thing that looks decently informed is that it alienates some fans of former editions, but that's nothing to give it front-page status.

Since when have the Maps ever been hard to navigate?

Civ5 getting a solid mention on a fairly prominent website seems good enough for front-page status. ;)

The 'real time strategy' comment is certainly very...ill-informed. :shake:

That's probably meant to be a reference to hexes.

"Koatku names Civ V one of the best 12 PC games"

    And rightly so!

Just goes to show how the nay sayers are -despite what they might think - not in the majority.

Whenever I see rants and discussions about how Civ5 sucks so hard, I see statements like "as most of us" or "the overwhelming majority" in the same sentence. It makes me chuckle.

Sorry chaps, but an overwhelming majority likes and plays Civ5 and - here's the important part - shuts up about it! Just because the nay sayers are louder in voicing their opinion, doesn't mean they are the majority. It is always the same. Those who are unhappy with something sure put more effort in expressing their unhappiness than those who are happy. It's simply human.

So Kotaku (besides others, btw) having high praise for Civ5 only reflects a popular opinion and will reinforce further acceptance of Civ5.

I, for one, am glad this is so.

Who is Kotaku anyway, and what evidence is there that he/they know what they are talking about?

You are right. But they are talking about the majority of the old time civ players. Not the majority of all the newcomers.
I could never get my friends to play older civs. It was too complicated for them. But now they are playing civ5.

But i would say that the majority of the players who loved civ since civ 1, miss the things that made civ4 complicated
