Landmark Terrain modding

I'm sure you could set it so that you can only build cities on LM terrains

This way you can direct where cities must be placed in scenario's. I wonder how the AI reacts with the LM terrains tho... They are used in the Conquests Scenario's, so the AI must know how to use them.

you could place little flags on all of the LM terrain tiles, and that will tell you where you can build a city (just an idea!)

There are many even greater ideas, but I won't get into them, because I might get beaten up by a certain someone - if he is reading :D

You can't set cities to be built on LM terrains only, though here is a interesting idea by Flamegrape, on how to achieve something similiar.

I thank you to OZ then. I will give credit where credit is due. I meant to thank you with that post earlier, but I geuss I was too excited and forgot to mention your name in there. Consider that thanks as meant for you as well.:thumbsup:

Good Heavens, you're going to make me blush! -- PLEASE don't give it another thought! Part of the joy of these forums is the free exchange of ideas and I doubt that any of us could thoroughly footnote where all of our ideas come from :) .

Anyway, All The Best,

Sorry, which files are placeholders for LM grassland, desert and plains graphics? In the art\terrain\ folder I can only see LMForest, LMHills and LMMountains pcx's.

But to get a full LM grassland (i.e. not display quarter tiles) you will need to change all of these files:

lxdgc.pcx
lxdgp.pcx
lxggc.pcx
lxpgc.pcx
lxtgc.pcx

as they have parts of the LM grassland terrain (as well as parts of the other base LM terrains).

Impassible Mountains vs Passable Mountains...

I have made Most if not ALL of my units (except mr road builder) Wheeled, as a result, Roads become more important for troops, and movement... but heres an added advantage, I mae the LM mountains, Non-roadable, e.g. I set the commerce bonus on LM mountains to 0, which means they cannot get roads, which means that No units (except little mr Road builder) can Cross the LM mountains, Effectvely making them Impassable except for those few units that are Non Wheeled, Exploreres, Adventurerers and of course little mr Road builder

Just one question!!!

Are you saying that "little mr Road builder" cannot build a road on the LM mountains, because of the "0 commerce"???????

Correct: setting any terrain's Commerce Bonus to "0" prohibits the building of roads (and thereby of course railroads as well) in that terrain.

Ok, thanks Embryodead and Warpstorm!

I can now see why it's so difficult to mod LM grassland, plains and desert!

To be honest, I know I can't. I have to try to find out who did all the graphix I'm using for my mod though. So I'm going to have to try and figure out where I d/l-ed all of them.

Ok, as a terrain modder, I have been playing with the terrain to get the extra 'pictures' to really work... But to some avail...

Only the 'additional' terrain (overlays) such as mountains, forests and hills will have a decent set of graphics...

For the Land terrain, Desert, Plains, Grassland and Sea, only 1 part of the four is replaced

(for unknowing people, each land is made up of 4 quarters of terrain, north, south east and west, to allow the blending effect you see....)

So if only 1 of four is changed, then only a small 'part' of the terrain will look different.. for example, I am changing the terrain sets to:
Chapparrel, Savanna, Steppe, Coral Reef, Caverns, Snow Covered Hills and Dark Haunted Forests

The last 3 are easy, but the first 3 can be nothing more than a few iconic additions to the normal terrain, such as Spinifex bushes for Chapparrel(red desert with a dash more water), Savanna has longer grasses, the Steppe is a Cold Snowy Grasslands.. so a dash more whites in the greens, and a dark shadow in the waters for reefs, or maybe I'll go actual corals... unsure on that one yet...

I hate to bump up an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone has done this yet? I could use these terrains if anyone has. I've been trying to do this myself, but my graphix look too cartoonish or they just don't work at all. (Apparently my paint program can't handle this) I would be very happy if someone could make these terrain graphix, with maybe using Rhye's terrain v1.1 for C3C? It's in the graphic modpack forum somewhere.

hmmm I'm trying to make LM Sea into very small islands to make them into victory point as well as making the map more accurate looking. (ie: some islands are too small to build cities on)

I've changed the sea tile in the landmark_terrain.pcx file (where there are all these little yellow diamonds) what else do I need to change? I thought just changing that tile would work?

no no no. landmark_terrain.pcx file is only a guide for landmark editing. you shouldn't touch them. you should add those islands to LMSea.pcx file, though mind you, it's a lot of work (a lot of tiles, and they link in a special way...).

ahh... I don't see an LMSea.pcx file though. I only have lwSSS.pcx. I assume changing that would change ALL normal sea tile.... that's not what i want... :\

The tiles in lwSSS.pcx all look the same. How are they linked?

that's right sorry... it's called lwSSS.pcx. It won't change normal sea tiles (they're in wSSS.pcx). the "L" letter denotes landmark. And the tiles aren't same, look closely... you will see different shades of blue, those are for coast and ocean.
