Laptop help

I am currently in Iraq. On R&R I plan to get a laptop to bring back. Since this is a harsh environment I want to get a budget model provided it will still surf and play DVD's. Any suggestions on where to save money? The best Price I have seen is $575, and thats for a refurbished Pentium 3. I would like a few more choices under $750 if I can find them.

Hard to say because of the increased temperatures. Processors can overheat.

Although not as powerful, VIA make some low-cost processors that are supposed to run cool. These are targetted primarilly at regions such as Egypt, but they are also sold as budget solutions in the west.

I'm not recommending these chips, just mentioning them
