Laptop problem

I have two identical Toshiba Portege laptops, anf five different external floppy drives, however, no matter what combination I try, the laptop invariably switches itself off when connected to the floppy drive. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do?

Call support? Maybe not for the computer, but for the drives, if you have any.
