I recently binge watched the series, hadn't seen it before

the greatest generation... I wont argue with that, before heading off to win a world war many suffered thru the Depression and Dust Bowl

They didn't had it so easy. WW2 and the great depression were felt through the world (dust bowl was probably most felt in the US).
It's sad that in a couple of years there won't be any veterans of WW2 left.

I had the privilege of meeting Richard Overton the year before he passed away at age 112. At the time he was America's oldest surviving veteran:

But obviously, centenarians are very much the exception. Most of the adult males from my childhood, including my father, uncles, and childhood neighbors, were WWII veterans. And all of them are gone now.
