I just finished a game where I won by a time victory. Saladin had been leading the entire game, I became second only recently, and then, with five turns left, his score plummets and I'm in first. And prior, he was leading by about 200 points. Last-minute victory (and prior, I'd been upset because my UN victory was not shaping up).

To how many has this happened?

PS: YAY ME!!!!:spear::trophy::banana::ninja::run:

Never.

I do not allow any victory condition other than conquest.

Why would i wan't some other victory condition comming along and disrupting the game just when it started getting interesting? Thats just crazy talk!

I've only played up to Chieftain so far (next level next week :) ), but my only mission is to destroy everyone now sporting my flag.

Although, I accidently won by domination yesterday. I had 1 last civ to destroy, but he was on a spec of land (large world, 8 civs).

Once, just after moving up a difficulty level (to Emperor or Immortal, I don't recall); I was locked in a stalemate and ensured a time victory by nuking eveyone else back to the stone age.

Of course, it's debatable whether being the universally despised scourge of civilisation (but most powerful person on earth) is really better than being the respected and beloved number 2 :)

How exactly do you get a conquest victory without running into domination first? Do you have to do it fast enough or something?

(a) Vassalise or eliminate everyone else. Vassals count as defeated rivals, even ones who have volunteered to be your vassal rather than been capitulated.
(b) Raze a lot of what you conquer. This however has its drawbacks as the AI tends to leak onto whatever landmass it can find, therefore I absorb what I get out of conquest and rarely win by Conquest as a result. Some people capitulate civs and liberate a few cities back to them to keep themselves under the Domination limit.
(c) Turn domination victory off (what I wish I'd done in my latest game because I was trying to get a space-race victory with a huge empire and blow me, didn't my territory leak over the 64% mark?! I was Willem, who is Creative, so for my next game I'll either play a non-creative leader (Hannibal looks good) or turn Domination off). Open Custom Game and fiddle with the victory conditions.

a) Disable domination victory
or
b) get the conquest when most of the land is still neutral
or
c) raze a lot.

I've lost a game where I was leading the Ethiopians on Score until the last turn, where they overtook me by 1 point:mad:

No it isn't.

Of course you'd want to be the scourge. Nukes FTW. (I don't use them enough, I need nuke practice).

D) Just take everyone as vassals.

Vassals only count 1/2 of their territory towards your land and pop. If you take a lot of vassals after wiping the 1st civ out, you won't cross the land threshold.

If everyone is a vassal or dead, you win conquest.

Now that has to be interesting. Their is no way for the game to end until every last speck of civilization is under your control. I'd hate for that to go late game and then have the UN ban nukes.

Time Victory what is that again? ;)
