Does anyone play many later era starts?

All of my civ games are usually decided by the industrial era- around rifles and liberalism- and are always won by gaining a tech lead. Sometimes I'm behind in land and production but trade around some techs, research rifles or steel and make a land grab on my way to a space or domination victory. Other times it's more simple, an early war gives me the most/best land for superior bpt and I lead in research without much trading. Usually I get rifles and/or cannons before everyone else so it's not that difficult. But I wondered how a game would look if we were all on tech parity up til the end, yet I'm not too eager to jump into emperor+ difficulties where it's much harder to jump way ahead in tech like that. So I tried an industrial era start.

I'm not very far in yet, but it's interesting to see everyone with rifles but no wars yet. We all started with 3 settlers and the AI seems content to peacefully expand for now. I've beaten them to the best city sites and have the most cities. While they research scientific method I'm going for steam power to get assembly line before everyone else for factories and levies. Then I plan to use my advanced production to crush them, despite having pretty equal units.

In general it's been pretty fun to start this late. The strategy does adjust a bit. I was just wondering if anyone else has any experiences to share with later era starts.

I know I like industrial era starts with "Advanced Start" (the option that allows you to buy your initial empire), especially with double the money--I set up a few superb cities that allow me to progress quite comfortably; whereas the AI prefers to ReX with mediocre & so-so cities. Given that I've been feeling the game's too slow & tedious for my liking during the earlier eras, I'm thinkning to play more of these.

One more interesting thing, on my industrial start religion is a non factor. Every started with lib for free religion civic. About 3 turns in religions were magically founded in random cities but by then everyone was running FR so no one really switched out. Even now many turns in only a few have switched after religion spread to all their cities, I'm still running FR. Has it's ups and downs, no real friends but no real enemies either.
