And hey, Venezuela has no business trying to go to war againt Brazil, they may have a better and more organizated army(no wonder if they have, but I dont know),

Chavez has been buying boatloads of Russian weapons to modernize the Venezuelan army. I do not know how well trained Vzlan soldiers are, or whether they would fight for Chavez or turn on him as the army did several years ago. I don't know anything about the current Brazilian military's power, but it also seems to be very undisciplined from what I hear of activities in the Amazon where soldiers seem to work for oil companies.

Still think that with better relations Brazil could manage this situation by diplomacy all(or almost) the way. In the worse scenario Brazil could bribe(with its soul for help or buy weapons from rich countries at least..

Anyway we are talking about the Future here, what would happen if tomorrow Chavez was killed by somebody(USA spy?)? I tihnk its the best solution after all hehe, but its only future, we cant really predict!

ANywya where are you from after all Ricardo?

Desmadre es como Disaster, catastrophe or mess ....if your room is really dirty your mom might say es una desmadre - literally means no mother. One *NoMother to all Mother - Disaster, loses something in tranlation :p It may be a word in portuguse to thou since they share 90% of the same words, not sure about it thou.

First, there's no such language as spanish... spanish is a nationality. There are 4 languages spoken in Spain: castellano (castilian), catalán, euskera & gallego.

Desmadre is a castilian word which means "go over the limits" (usually associated to a party)
Madre (mother) would be used as a metaphore for "clearly"

So "Un desmadre a todo madre" should be translated as "Clearly go over the limits"

Sure there are some words in common between castilian and portuguese... but some, even looking and sounding alike, are really different.

coche: castilian for baby cart
coche: portuguese for casket

I wonder why my country, Chile, has never been mentioned in the discussion... Maybe because it's the oasis of Latinamerica. By the way, i made a civ3 mod to include it and gave us a faster infantry: Death husar.

beware of the desert that surrounds you, my friend... it could easily swallow the oasis...

you got that right!!!!

Imagine how many souls would've been saved if someone, anyone, would've killed Hitler before 1935... well, the same applies to the gorilla from Caracas... assasination is the best way to deal with him for sure... before all hell breaks loose.

I WAS from Paraguay, although I consider my birth there a "geographical glitch", if you know what I mean... ;)

My country is Canada now. And I feel happy when I say that, believe me.

Amorim, the brazilian foreign minister, is talking with their paraguayan counterparts as we speak (did you know that?). The subject: defensive military cooperation. At the same time, the brazilian armed forces are deploying their biggest operative exercises ever in the border with Paraguay, including forces from all branches (air, land, naval).

Some coincidences, huh? Well, I don't believe in coincidences, especially after Amorim said, when he arrived yesterday, that he "comes to strenghten the military cooperation between Paraguay and Brazil as a response to the Military Alliance between Bolivia and Venezuela"... (those words are in the press).

Now, tell me about an escalation in the already tense southamerican atmosphere...

btw, I'm in Vancouver. Where are you, Arlborn?

Hum, still think Venezuela is not crazy enough to start a war that drags Brazil in..

Anyway we aare completely off-topic! Or maybe not and we are just showing that |Firaxis wont put any modern south-american country in the game :p

Im in Netherlands, got a daughter around here "by the internet" hehe.

Venezuela is not... Chavez is.

This is a picture from yesterdays "maneuvers" in the brazilian-paraguayan border... a clear message, if you ask me.

Starting a border war is an age old method of securing domestic support, so if Chavez feels his position is threatened at home, he may feel incentive for a military adventure. Especially against a weak opponent, so the Vzlan military will love him.

I still just dont think so(and sure dont hope so hehe), but we will see I think...

Good luck out there!

Ps: I hope they put Lula(I know they wont) next Expansion, I would laught like hell of his LH haha! And what traits? Probably Philosofical and Organizated LOL!

...You can have socialist regimes, like in Sweden...

  I'm not sure you can class Sweden as having a socialist regime. Left-of-centre political landscape possibly, but Sweden and regime in the same sentence seems wrong.

Although it would go a long way to explain the IKEA phenomenon...

Yeah, even when Sweden had a militaristic leader bent on foreign adventures, it was gentleman like Gustavus Adolphus. Whereas Russia and America are Democracies now . . .

The subterranean watersource (TLC's) that keeps our oasis comes from far away enough (China, Korea, India, UE, USA, etc.), that any nearby sandstorm (your proposed war between Venezuela & Brazil) would be able to swallow us... Maybe i'm excesivelly optimistic, but without optimism i couldn't be alive.

De todos modos me gustaría visitar Paraguay y conocer las Cataratas de Iguazú... ;)

that's exactly why you are the oasis in the middle of the desert... it's called free market.

I know your sources of prosperity are far away from the mediocrity of your neighbours, but that's the sandstorm that could swallow you, if you are "too" optimistic... you're managing the overall situation pretty well, but that could change the instant you "lower your defenses", if you know what I mean...

I wish you the best, my chilean friend. You are the example that should be followed by your neighbours, but that is not happening. As in any Kingdom of Mediocrity, your neighbours would prefer to see you go down rather than adopt the decisions that lead to your success.

But anyways, I really hope you succeed in maintaining your model.

Oh, one last thing: it's not "my proposed war", I'm only reading the signals. That's all.

No vayas.

saludos,

it doesn't really matter how this topic came to chavez but i must say probably the leader who best fits for terrorist is bush..

Gracias por la advertencia... :)

Going back to the topic, as i stated before in Civ 3 i gave Chile the "death husar" as UU (a fast infantry) and commercial (this should be financial in Civ 4, i guess) and industrious traits...
The UB (for Civ 4) should be one that replaces courthouse and allows one extra trade route...

latin american UU, border hopper-50% gold per turn as long as this unit remains on their land. +10 population in every city.
lol j/k.. Arent aztec and inca latin american civs? Add the Mayas and maybe the Olmecs and were good 2 go..

No, those civs are all indigenous, pre-Latin American.
