I only have one specific question: Do we have any evidence he ever used a sword in Arabia?

I wouldn't know about the sword, but there is a rich and varied biographical and historical literatre about Lawrence out there - from the starry-eyed romantic to the hard-ass academic.

Oh, and I don't think "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" can really be trusted. It's a magnificent read though.

Remember this: the most myths of this guy was created by HollyWood and the British print media. So you are gonna really have to filter out the fiction from the facts. I suggest you do real research of British Foriegn Policy in the Middle East during the early 20th century (especially Lord Curzon and other predecessors). You will more likely see L. Arabia as having been very minute of all the adventures that have taken place there.
