What's the best way to set your towers to explore all the land?

I've tried leap-frogging them but discovered that I often get black holes where the new tower doesn't cover everything the old one did.

Yes, I know you can improve a tower but it costs just as much as a new tower and does less.

So what's the most efficient way to layout towers without eating up all your production?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Improving towers is probably better given that there is a hard cap on buildings. Better to have 10 improved towers than 20 small ones.

20 small ones reveal more land than 10 with 1 improvement. Plus small ones can be moved for only 50 p. That's why I've tried leap-frogging, but that leaves black holes.

I know there must be a better way than what I'm doing.

I could solve it if I could see more of my city. This is the first game I've played that doesn't have a zoom tool so we could reduce things to a manageable level.

The cap is somewhere between 94 and 100 buildings.

My question to the OP is: do you need to see all of your land? I generally build towers until I find some good food and production areas.

What is the cap? I haven't run in to it yet, so it must be pretty high...

90 sounds high, but it's not. Even with water tiles to reduce pastures, my first city ran out of buildings real quick. Each pasture eats up a LOT of tiles.

It's not bad at all if you're running a science city though as there's little else beyond the village green and a university.

I like to build all small towers, upgrade the ones I like, and sell off the ones I don't, but ya, there's a balance somewhere.
