In another thread, i asked if there was any interest in extended Leader lists based on the discussion of the thread, and received a response indicating that:

Cities, leaders, ... lists are always good to have.

Based on this, I will be posting some lists of Leaders and some ideas for Cities that I have worked up over the years for some of my mods. Some of the Leader lists are longer than others, based on the information that I have in my library. I will be using the names that I am most familiar with, and if some of the non-US members use other spellings, that is fine and I would welcome their sharing of them. However, I will tend to stay with the spellings that I have used. Generally, for Leaders, I will be listing those that were historically important, competent or better, characterize the Civilization (this for the Scandinavians, aka Vikings), or I have some respect for. For example:

George Armstrong Custer does not make my cut, George B. McClellan I am ambivalent about (excellent organizer, borderline at best as a combat commander, so does not make cut so far), George Thomas aka "The Rock of Chickamauga" is on the list.

I also will include Naval Officers and some political leaders as well. Winston Churchill is on the British List. Gamal Nasser and Arabi Pasha are on the Egyptian list.

I will also toss in some City ideas, as for some civilizations, the game is a bit strange when it comes to cities, Greece being an example. Troy is a Greek city, as in Marathon and Thermopylae. Hmm, the last two were Battle sites. Not thrilled with Salamanca for the Iroquois either.

Having said all of that, here is a list for the Iroquois, ranging from King Philip to the very unfortunate Black Kettle.

Iroquois Leaders: King Philip, Cornplanter, Tecumseh, Powhatan, Osceola, Thayendanegea (aka Joseph Brant), The Prophet (Tecumseh's brother), Black Hawk, Red Cloud, Roman Nose. Quanah Parker, Satanta, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Geronimo, Mangas Colorado, Cochise, Vitorio, Chief Joseph, Looking Glass, and Black Kettle.

Iroquois Science Leaders:
Seqoyah, Squanto, Wovoka

Beginning Greek Leader List
(for Conquests only, the Play the World list is different): Pyrrhus, Agamemnon, Nestor, Menelaus, Achilles, Ajax, Odysseus, Diomede, Leonidas, Themistocles, Epaminondas, Philip of Macedon (Alexander's Father), Mithridates, Pericles, Pausanias, Xenophon.

Possible Greek Cities
to replace the odd ones: Thebes, Pylos, Tiryns, Ithaca.

More to come.

I have a number of city lists for a variety of nations, so if anyone interested just let me know and I will contribute what I have as well.

Fire away, Gojira, and might as well post them here. The more the merrier. [party]:band:

Salamanca and Niagara Falls have switched places, since the second one is one of the most holy sanctuaries of the native indians.

I hope this is useful.

Here is one of my list for the Americans. It varies depending on the mod I am working on.

American Leaders: Washington, Nathaniel Greene, John Paul Jones, Edward Preble, Winfield Scott, Andrew Jackson, U. S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, William Sherman, Stonewall Jackson, Phil Sheridan, George Thomas, Joe Johnston, Adm. Foote, Adm. Farragut, Commodore DuPont, George Crook, Teddy Roosevelt, Black Jack Pershing, MacArthur, Dwight Eisenhower, George Marshall, Omar Bradley, Adm. Nimitz, Adm. Spruance, Adm. Halsey, "Chesty" Puller, George Patton, Billy Mitchell, Curtis Lemay, George Meade.

I am not a fan of Dug-Out Doug, but he was one of the principal American commanders of World War 2.

Here are some of mine. Some are very large.

Quite an appropriate choice, Ares. The Poles were famous for their excellent light cavalry.

Why this condition?

Mainly personal preference. There are a lot of incompetent leaders throughout military history, so I would rather focus attention, as I am posting the lists online, on those that I view as good to great leaders. Hopefully, someone reading the list will be sufficiently curious to do some research on the ones that I post. Nicias was the primary Athenian leader of the Athenian force that attacked Syracuse in Sicily, but he was by no means competent for his command. The Roman Consuls that first faced Hannibal could not be viewed as exactly brilliant, but history does record their names as leaders of the Roman Legions. Quintilius Varus, who lead the Roman force which was destroyed by the German Leader Arminius, was clearly not competent, but was placed in charge of three legions by Augustus, not one of his better decisions.

Then you have such individuals as Benedict Arnold during the Revolution. His actions on Lake Champlain in 1776 delayed the British sufficiently to postpone the northern invasion until 1777, which resulted in the defeat of the British under Burgoyne. Arnold was clearly one of the better American commanders, but his later actions make it a bit hard to include him on the list of American leaders. As for putting him on the list of British leaders, he did lead the British forces in Virginia for a while, but the British never really trusted him. Vidkun Quisling was definitely a Norwegian leader, but he does have a similar problem to Arnold, as no one really likes a traitor. Marshal Petain was viewed as a hero in World War One, in World War Two, things were a bit different. So Foch and Joffre, along with Franchet d'Esperey make the cut, Petain does not.

Basically, I would prefer featuring the leaders that either I view as good or better, or those that simply cannot be overlooked. For Spain, that means Charles the Fifth, Holy Roman Emperor and also King of Spain, and his son, Philip the Second make the list. I can skip past most of the French leaders during the Hundred Years War, still not sure of Charles the Eighth of France. He won at Fornovo, after putting himself into a very dangerous situation, mainly because the French were used to fighting for real, while the Italian Condottieri were used to play-acting at war. Francis the First falls into a similar category. Yes, he won at Marignano, but never really showed that he understood any higher concept of tactics or strategy beyond couching his lance and charging, or about on par with the French leaders of the Hundred Years War.

If that is not satisfactory for an explanation, let me know.

I got away for a while from this, so I should do some catching up. For the Byzantines, the standard game list has five, all of whom would be good choices. For additional Byzantine Leaders and cities, here are some suggestions.

Leaders: Narsus, Leo the Wise, Basil the Bulgar Slayer, Maurice, Nicephoras Phocas, Heraclius, Alexis Comnenus, Mundus, Leo the Isaurian, Justin

For Cities, remember for prior to the Muslim irruption, the Byzantines controlled the Eastern Mediterranean and part of the Western Roman Empire. Therefore, you can include the following: Rome, Ravenna, Tarentum, Antioch, Jerusalem, Alexandria, Syracuse, Hippo in North Africa, and Naples.

It has been a while since I did any posting here, so I need to get back to it.

For British Leaders, I have the following: Winston Churchill, Alfred the Great, Edward the First, Richard Lionheart, Edward the Third, Black Prince, Henry the Fifth, Edward the Fourth, Henry the Eight, Oliver Cromwell, Prince Rupert, Admiral Blake, Sir Francis Drake, General Monck, Duke of Marlborough, Admiral Hawke, Sir Guy Carleton, Admiral Jellicoe, Gen Allenby, Lawrence of Arabia (could be Arab leader as well), Chinese Gordon, Sir Garnet Wolseley, FM Wavell, FM Montgomery, FM Auchinleck, FM Alexander, David Lloyd-George, Sir John Moore, Air Marshall Dowding.

I remove Wallace from the list, as he was a Scot with a strong dislike of the English, so more properly with the Celts.
