Is it ever coming on Switch, or has Aspyr given up on the port already?
Should be easy one to add, but I wonder if they'll bother.
Would bring me back in game.

To put it bluntly, Aspyr has done the absolute minimum for the game. There are serious and obvious bugs that have been here for years that Aspyr (not Firaxis, since they are absent in other platforms) introduced and all they've said is "we're taking it seriously", despite those reports going in years ago and nothing.

They were approached by Firaxis, and despite rolling out the LP for Mac and other platforms, they've refused for consoles. I daresay their contract Mac insisted on it, but they have wriggle room with consoles. I very much doubt it that we'll ever see it on the Switch, or we'd have received confirmation that it would be coming by now, albeit with delays.

If you're angry about how Aspyr is treating us, feel free to inform them and also to make their behaviour known.

Well, if the leader pass comes with no official fixes or patches to solve serious issues like AI science rush...then I feel like I am not missing too much!
Anyway, I still believe the leader pass will eventually make it to the Nintendo Switch since it looks like an easy to implement DLC.

The thing is, Aspyr doesn't care, or they'd have announced it by now. It would have been fairly easy to do it alongside the Mac releases. That it's easy to do means that they should have released it by now - or at the very least, announced that they're doing it.

I don't think they have any intention of doing it. They evidently aren't obligated to do it and they have given up on the Switch.

Maybe Take2 will have some other developer taking over the Switch version, then. Doesn't make much sense to leave the Switch version in the dust when Take 2 says it has sold above expectations!

That's my hope. The problem is how the contract works. They're probably franchised, so Aspyr has probably bought the rights, so 2K would have to buy them out and sell it again to someone else. Would they bother that much over it? It's not like they've shown the PC version the love it needs.

Why would Aspyr own any rights to the Switch version!? Weren't they just contracted to make the port? I don't understand much of game developing environment but can't understand the decision behind giving some other company rights over my IP, specially for just doing a job of making a port.
Does Aspyr own Disney given rights for Star Wars games they port!?...I would think not.

They franchise these things a lot of the time. They haven't sold the IP, just limited and exclusive rights to it in certain circumstances. The idea is that Aspyr will have paid $Xmillion to 2K. In return, Aspyr gets access to the code, exclusive rights to publish for the Switch and Aspyr gets to keep any money from the sales. Aspyr would likely have had to agree to some stringent rules too (eg, they can't develop novel content).

2K benefits because of publicity, they get to test the market (if it does well, they can do in-house versions for future iterations), they don't have to hire specialists for the Switch which would be very expensive if it bombed and very little risk - they get their $Xmillion regardless. The only risk is if Aspyr does such a bad job that they taint the brand.

It's worth mentioning that there are usually limits, for example for so many years or it has to be getting so many sales, but that's dependant on the specific contract.

I had no idea the companies behind the ports came to game developer and pay them to have access to IP so they can make the port and get a profit. I always thought it was the other way around, as in the game developer would contract a port developer in order to maximise an IP's reach and sales!

Here it is.
Leader Pass is just released on Switch.
Took a while. :D

9 months later and its a Leader!
Where's my cigar!?

And it is bugged so that if you try to do any trade/diplomacy with AI, the game crashes. The denounce button is bugged and shows filename instead of the button. This is a bug that playtesting it as far as twenty turns should have caught.

Fortunately I had not intended to play CIV VI with the leader pass right away, as I've been busy with Diablo 2 Resurrected, so for now i'll just update the main game and cross my fingers that a quick fix will come around for that bug!

I finished 2 updates of CIV VI on the Nintendo Switch, I guess the one of the updates already has leader pass but the the pass doesn't show as downloaded/installed on the dlc menu. I even created a 2K account and linked it with my Nintendo account in order to get Caesar, but still nothing. I have the anthology pack, even checked my nintendo eshop profile to be sure, but leader pass is still asking for money. I read elsewhere that these issues are still unresolved for some. Is anibody else in the forums having the same problems? Having anthology but still no leader pass for free?

I haven't tried yet, to be honest. I'm busy with other stuff and I heard there are major bugs (at least with iOS - they getting their saves wiped) so I'm waiting for that to be resolved.

I'm really hoping they fixed the road graphics bug, though.

I just want to get it working for now, make sure the Leader Pass and Caesar are properly installed and ready to play on my console. These bugs you are mentioning, do they only happen on the Switch?

Yep. I sent a bunch in to Aspyr and they never bothered. I'm hoping that whoever got the LP sorted also managed to do get the bugs fixed. The three that I can remember off the top of my head, in order of annoyance, are:

* Roads and railroads are glitches in their graphics and show up as repeated squares rather than as roads or railroads.

* If you try to move a governor to a different city by scrolling, the list doesn't move. You have to play in handheld if you have more than half a dozen cities and you want to move a governor to one of those that aren't on the visible list (you can use your finger to scroll the list, the cursor doesn't scroll when using the joystick, it just disappears off the screen.

* The Hall of Fame only records something like 4 or 5 games. If (or rather, when) you complete more than that, then it forgets that you did the earliest game, so you'll only ever have like 5 leaders listed as having won, etc.

Those bugs combined with the science bug, which, so far as I'm aware, they hadn't fixed before this update, the Switch was unplayable for me. I'm really hoping they've fixed it now.

The one about the roads and railroads i never noticed before because I've never set and hexagon of railroad ever.

The governor is an annoying one...but i keep moving the selection behind the frozen list, going so far as to count how many positions i've moved so i land in a different city. Mostly annoying when trying to place Amani on a CS! Didn't know handheld mode using a finger to scroll the list worked, thanks for the quick fix:thumbsup:

I've given up on the hall of fame entirely!

Science might have been somewhat patched, as playing emperor I can still get ahead on the space race playing very relaxed!

I don't find the Switch version unplayable...as have no other way to play the game. What really anoys me is the "wait 5 minutes turns for my turn" in the late.
